I decided to crunch the numbers and see if I could provide an actual end date for the project. This required some math and I will share it here in case I did it wrong!

First some history. The goal of this project is to make an 840 page Necronomicon. This is based on a desire to incorporate Lovecraft's reference to a spell on page 829 (in a letter to Clark Ashton Smith) and to provide some distance between the page referenced in the Dunwich Horror (751) and the end of the book. My original goal (before I found the letter to Smith) was a clean 816 pages (17 Quires of 12 Leaves each). To minimize the cost for expanding the book I offered to make up the difference with a shorter 18th Quire of 6 Leaves, mailed out in two groups of 3 Leaves.

448 pages have already been released, leaving 392 to go. 368 of those will be in the standard release pattern of 2 Leaves (8 pages) each month so 368 divided by 8 equals 46. The last 24 pages will be released in two mailings (as mentioned above) so 24 divided by 12 equals 2.

Add those together and we are 48 mailings from the end of the book, which is June of 2027. That should give everyone plenty of time to bind their copies before the 100th anniversary of the Dunwich Horror the following year!

Is there a list of things that have been mentioned in stories about the content of the Al Azif?

The Chaosium Necronomicon anthology has a wonderful piece in it by Robert M. Price that collects all the major quotes from the Lovecraft Circle, but there are many more out there. For example, the recent portion of my Necronomicon involving worms bred in dead camels came from a single reference by Frank Belknap Long from a 1925 issue of Weird Tales! I found a reference to it through HPL scholar Bobby Deery and knew I had to make use of it.
