Here's a picture featuring Brendan and Brawly from Pokemon Ruby/Saphire/Emerald. The idea was suggested by (A)rrow.

"Brendan need a boost in his confident during the contest so went to Brawly to a training for gaining confidence"

Brendan knew exactly who to consult how to get more popular in contests, that being Brawly! THe moment he stepped into the gym, Brawly's eyes shined in excitement to start Brendan's training, him joining in for the fun of it.

...And turned out to be pretty effective! As both boys outgrew the whole gym by getting the most out of all the equipment...and then had to support each other once the equipment was useless for them! And since Brendan is the one that's going to the contest, Brawly agreed to focus his attention and effort to make Brendan grow alone instead!

Not only Brendan would get all the looks, but his dad will have to literally look up to Brendan in all sense of the word from now on!
