August 2021 Sketches 18 - Therion (Octopath Traveler) (Patreon)

Here's a sequence featuring Therion from Octopath Traveler. The idea was suggested by PipthePuffin.

"I was looking back on Octopath Traveler before. Don't know if you've ever played it but Therion has quite a nice design. He is a thief usually shown holding an apple. Maybe he takes a bite of it but it actually makes him hungrier and he goes on a food binge (and eats a few monsters along the way, I like seeing that trope in your stuff)."

1. You and Therion were commissioned to retrieve a cursed apple from the nearby forest, since with it, the medicine to cure that curse could be extracted...But Therion accidentally ate it while you two settled down to settle a campfire.

Strangely enough, he didn't seem to have been damaged in any shape...but he seemed much more hungry than usual, eating his and your rations in no time.

2. Therion's hunger became much bigger, now stealing from travelling merchants, not money, but their food instead. And when there was no food around, he by himself would go out and hunt down monsters...to eat them raw! 

You could notice that the more he ate, the bigger he was growing, and the bigger he got, the hungrier he was! His targeted loots and monster becoming bigger along with him, escalating his growth inmensely. You couldn't help but to feel a little afraid to travel along such hungry beast.

3. Therion's hunger and growth haven's stopped at all, and seemed like he was in charge of your travels instead of the other way around. Often interrupting your quests to gather more food, stealing from travelers without even trying to use any stealth, but his sheer strength and intimidation instead. And if the victims were too stubborn, wether they were human or monster, he just straight up ate them! Adding up to his mass almost inmediatedly after the victims fell into his bloated, distented belly, his whole body growing while letting out an intimidating, ominous growl.

You couldn't do anything about it. After he ate that cursed apple, it was like an avalanche effect that couldn't be stopped, Therion kept on eating whatever he wanted and uncontrollably growing, and you could only assist him at that point, because if you didn't, you would end up next on the menu...
