Content

As you may have read from https://www.pixiv.net/info.php?id=8788

Pixiv has been pressured into banning non-consensual, bestiality and loli/shota content entirely.

Currently I'm weighing my various options on monetization models and the distribution. The deadline before the change comes to effect is December 15th, so there's decent amount of time to prepare.

I advice against doing anything hasty since this doesn't necessarily mean that I have to jump platforms or change my content yet, if the arrangements are done right. I'll continue in another Fanbox blogpost update once I'm more certain about the next steps forward.

UPDATE: Apparently we have to wait until "late November" to know whatever Pixiv *really* means by their update and what the banned content's exact definitions are.

I hate this politically correct world😥. No matter what platform you jump to, I will always follow you.

CarameLatte

It's a bit up in the air, I see some JP accounts commenting on about Real life images being posted or Ai art etc. So it's a bit confusing. Also a little wierd that they would suddenly do this.

Obfg

Gumroad is a perfectly useable backup. There's also SubscribeStar as well.

JADF@jadf_

I don't think this has anything to do with AI art and everything to do with payment processors ramping up their demands.

JADF@jadf_

I don't wanna jump platforms to non-JP alternatives as long as possible because it will screw up my tax accounting hard and people don't want to switch to Fantia... Besides, it's probably only a matter of time before those follow the suit as well. Not to mention jumping platforms is a huge blow to income every time.

Obfg

Well then your only other real option is to do what Shadman did and make your own website.

Did you mean to write "I advice AGAINST doing anything hasty"

RedRider3

Tbh the only thing I can think of is what I heard someone else was gonna do. Change Pixiv to SFW only and have a Discord for supporters.

Anonymous

Best of luck to you, J. がんばて!!

PolarEclipse

And then they end their post with: "pixiv aims to protect freedom of expression, and respecting the content of work is an important part of our policy. We have updated our Terms because we believe that maintaining a safe environment for all user transactions is a part of supporting that policy. Laughable tbh. I would be more... "accepting" if this was a decicion made by pixiv, but I don't think they ignore their tos for years and now go "Actually, we do care about tos now". bleh.

im just tryna whack it man

Gotta love it when corporations think they're being proactive and being socially just. Its so easy to see through. No corporation acts out of morality, they only make knee-jerk reactions because an advertiser mutters something, and then the corporation drastically overreacts. The bigger the corp, the bigger the overreaction. Drawing what you do doesn't hurt anyone. Nuance just doesn't matter though.

Shadman's a psycho and deserves the prison sentence they got. The idea of a .jp website is still sound when divorced from that person.

You can blame PayPal for that. It's always PayPal.

mooboy

Is pixiv completely dead? Are they going to completely kill those tags from fanbox and its regular site?

JADF@jadf_

Well, Pixiv still allows all the old content, it's just that Pixiv Fanbox won't since that's monetized.

mooboy

Fantia is weird cause it prevents people, particularly foreigners, to be unable to register their cards in without 3D secure. You should at least try to host it on fantia so that countries with 3D secure cards can give you support.

JADF@jadf_

Would be kinda strange if it was just PayPal, especially since PayPal has already banned all adult content to begin with. Why would they only limit the more "extreme" content instead of completely banning it?

JADF@jadf_

No, this doesn't apply to Pixiv outside of Fanbox and Requests parts. (the monetized parts of Pixiv)

mooboy

You can use paypal on this website, I can honestly see them as having presented an ultimatum to FANBOX; drop support of paypal completely or kill all "illegal" content. Paypal is already a retarded payment processor (I killed my account when they tried to implement the 2500 fine on every infraction of "misinformation"), this is totally down their aisle of shittery. That doesn't absolve FANBOX of not just ditching them as a payment processor though...

There are rumors that VISA and Mastercard are behind it. Because another website in Japan (FANZA) suddenly stopped supporting overseas VISA and MasterCard this year.

Aurkus23

I hate that they are making us wait till December for clarity. Hopefully linking outside the site will be fine.

mooboy

This is troublesome, how will foreigners be able to pay for shit without credit card companies intruding on what we fucking buy?

SNoodle Arts

Bruh, I JUST read that last line and went like... YOU FUCKING HYPOCRITE.

SNoodle Arts

And how expensive is that? Let alone, how difficult is it?! I can't code for shit, and I don't have the money to PAY someone!

vergreeneyes

SubscribeStar probably won't follow suit, if only because Paypal and Stripe already cut them off long ago when political dissidents (read: classical liberals) were migrating over from Patreon. But the tax thing is reasonable, hope you can find something that works!

Xephithos

Crazy. Hope it ends well for you and others. Beast stuff is my #1 fetish followed by futa(urethral and futa+beast lol) and its so hard to find. Curious if uploading previews on PIXIV and keeping this platform for subs and such but only posting the dl links would work? It might limit views and potential prospects but if it means avoiding the censor could be worth it. Love your stuff btw, never stop!!!!

Koume

Personally? I'd go for Discord posting- and then have a backup plan if *that* goes tits-up as well (whatever form the backup may take of course). Discord can be really picky-choosy about that. Remove all the "questionable" content from fanbox and then just direct supporters to the Discord maybe.

JADF@jadf_

Yeah, thought about using the Pixiv main site for posting links and previews since the content isn't banned there, and then letting people get the passwords from Fanbox.

DMM told Mastercard to go fuck themselves, a month or two ago, so it's definitely not always Paypal... just banks in general.

Anonymous

Just subbed to your fanbox as I really enjoy your content but it sucks what they're doing and if they do follow through are you gonna make a discord for your content but have passwords for the supporters?

BrandArkMen

It's cuz they wanna adhere to these darn card companies; like how YouTube tries its best to censor certain channels for monetization. It's ridiculous how they come after just plain drawings, honestly & there just big hypocrites in the end. But the internet will be the internet! Keep doing U, Jadf
