Sleep mode finally works the way it should, gamepad buttons no longer wake the device from sleep, RTC alarms have been disabled (saving a ton of battery) and the audio regulator is now disabled in sleep mode (saving some more battery).

Oh, and we now support the APT-X & APT-X HD Bluetooth audio codecs now, allowing for lag-free Bluetooth audio (if your headset supports it)!

And the default launcher has been replaced with a more modern version of itself as well!

(Yes, the app drawer scrolls properly now...)

How to install: Unpack the attached files using 7zip and follow the included instructions found inside README.txt.

Things to note when updating from a previous build: If you previously had Google Apps installed, please make sure you re-install them after the update to avoid crashes!

For those needing the Google Play Store: Reboot into TWRP and install the latest OpenGapps ARM64 9.0 Pico bundle! (I suggest you finish the first-time setup with WiFi disabled... things move so much faster if you do!)

For those needing root: Magisk is included out of box and only needs to be activated on first boot. A WiFi connection is required for the initial Magisk activation.

Changelog

  • Added APT-X Bluetooth audio codec support
  • Added APT-X HD Bluetooth audio codec support

  • A wakelock blocker has been added to the framework

Fantastic! Can we use the twrp to update from the previous beta update or do you recommend wiping the device and using the mask rom files?

Does Greenify cause issues with the new sleep mode? Would it even be necessary at this point with these changes?

blackseraph

The new kernel has alarms disabled which means we are running at the SoCs lowest supported sleep state pretty much permanently without interruptions. And if you enable the new "fast" sleep entry mode then your device will enter sleep guaranteed within 2-3 seconds. There really isn't much else we can do to optimize sleep further than this on this chipset. We're pretty much down to 2% loss per hour sleep now, which is a amazing score for the RK3399. So yeah, you will be fine without greenify for the most part now.

You are amazing, I'm just waiting for my BT/wifi5G dongle to mod the console... thanks for make the RG552 worth...

d3rt0xx

WOW! I'm so impressed! This Rom is very stable and pimped the RG552 to a powerful handheld! You are godlike! Thanks for your hard work!

Alber

Time to update. Thank you very much! Your work is appreciated.

Thanks for the frequent updates. I was wondering if it was possible to add an emulated mouse function, using the analog sticks? There are a number of good strategy games for android (OpenTTD, FreeCiv, Augustus (Caesar 3), OpenDune, etc) that will work with touch but were designed for mouse interfaces.

blackseraph

Theoretically possible. I'll look into it and if I can include it in a future update.

Michael Snipes

Black-Seraph is it possible to add a settings menu to the nav bar buttons to customize it

One thing I’m noticing that may be limited to Retroarch is that if you have Retroarch open and in use, and press the power button, the screen goes off but the light stays on. If I press the home button so they Retroarch is in the background, the green light stays off. I’m wondering going to the Home Screen before suspending may give better battery life?

Michael Snipes

How do you put it on auto cpu, like if i dont wana overclock, is their a way to put it back to normal mode where it auto switches

blackseraph

That's Android's wakelock system. That's normal. Android decides when it's a good time to "sleep". If you want to sleep the very instant you hit the power button then set the sleep mode to "Fast".

I often get this toast error when apps request permission to rw from external storage. http://trekgonewild.de/storage_error.jpg. However, the access works, regardless of the error message. I updated from beta #8 via twrp.

blackseraph

What apps are we talking about and what external media are you using? What's the file system in use? Fat32? Exfat? NTFS? Ext4?

Thanks for your hard work Black-Seraph ;) updating now

Hi everybody, i have flashed the last version for the first time and after the flash, a circle with "erasing" and after boot loops, in the recovery menu i have blackseraph, must be the kernel version. Thanks in advance.

Anonymous

where do I find it ?

Anonymous

Great work , thanks for your time! ...

Wow!!!! Amazing work!!! It's perfect, thanks for your work, it's like a new console for me!! One question, is there a way to turn off the screen while is connected to a tv trough hdmi? Thanks again

Anonymous

Well I just confirmed the hard way that the suspend does not work with Retroarch. I was playing Mario All stars and just pressed power versus pressing the Home Screen button and pressing power.

Anonymous

I just took the RG552 out of its case and it was HOT again and the screen had turned back on. I checked the battery and it’s almost dead.

Anonymous

Im going to try your suggestion of changing the sleep action because this clearly could destroy my unit if it continues to overheat like this

Michael Snipes

Is there a way to turn off the button combo now that we have navagation bar, the reason i ask is im playing a psp game that requires L and R to be pressed at the same time as one of the letter buttons and everytime i do it thinks i wana either go home or back or recent apps, its very annoying, and i cant progress in game as long as this is doing that

blackseraph

The combo served it's purpose while we had no navigation bar and will (most likely) be removed with the next build.

Michael Snipes

So button combo will be removed

Michael Snipes

Also will there be a settings menu for the nav bar, so far the new update is great besides the combo buttons lol

blackseraph

There will be no settings menu for the navbar, at least I'm not planning on one right now.

Michael Snipes

Kk what wuld u reccomend on customizing the nav bar since its rooted

Michael Snipes

And wuld it be possible to change the led color for when its asleep maybe blink yellow or red or green or any combo of the three

blackseraph

I wouldn't mod it. If you absolutely needed too though I'd start looking for a Zygisk module that does that.

Michael Snipes

Where do u get a zygisk module

Michael Snipes

Well cant wait for next build, as with all the others they are awesome

First of all congratulations for the work so far. I have a problem with XBoX Game Pass, the game freezes the screen but it continues to work behind, it is possible to hear the sound of the commands made. I'm still on update 9, do you know if it was fixed in the latest updates?

blackseraph

I don't know what causes it (and I don't have a XBOX game pass subscription to test this) but a few other users said that unplugging the power cable did the job for them. Without any additional information I'd say it's the charging circuit causing WiFi interference of some kind.

Anonymous

Ok, thats not my case, because i dont play while charging, but thanks for feedback

HI Black-Seraph, have a doubt about Magisk... is it really necessary to have it installed? I have problems to run PS Remote play and although I've tried to hide root, the Sony app sent a error message related to rooted devices. Is it possible to uninstall magisk or is it necessary for some processes? Regards!

blackseraph

It's necessary to make the Play Store play nice. For your problem you need a third party hide module like this one: https://github.com/kdrag0n/safetynet-fix/releases/tag/v2.2.1

blackseraph

There's a bunch of users running game pass on this device successfully so I'm not entirely sure what the problem might be here. It doesn't help that I don't have a subscription for it.

Anonymous

I've done the WiFi mod but I don't known if this has something to do with that...

blackseraph

It could theoretically (if you shorted something) but who knows? I can't really inspect your work.

d3rt0xx

You need "SafetyNet-Fix"-Module from link above and "MagiskHideProps"-Module (Just google it). We need newer TWRP-Version to hide "TWRP"-Folder too. This three steps hides root for ~90% of all apps. Is there a chance to update TWRP?

Michael Snipes

Black-Seraph: hows the update coming to disable the button combo now that we have nav bar?

Anonymous

have the same problem with gamepass since the beginning , the workaround its to launch the games using a web browser and no problems at all

blackseraph

I'm preparing a few more things hoping to bundle the changes up into a single package.
