So! Existentialism project:

I'm still short about $1,500 from my minimum budget on Patreon alone (honestly this is SO MUCH better than I initially expected), so I've been looking at alternative ways to fill in the gap:

- The first was the show getting a budget from a streaming service. Think like, a popular video hosting site with the word "Premium" after it. I'm a huge fan of the budget bump, but not a huge fan of giving up creative control and hiring.

- The second being a sponsor that could both give my viewers a special deal and also, more importantly, be relevant to the series, which is obviously not an easy feat for a topic like this lol.

I already had a "suggested reading" section planned for these videos, and right now I'm closing a deal with Audible as the sponsor to fill that financial gap. Nothing obnoxious at all, just book recommendations and free audiobook credits for my viewers.  It's also not an affiliate sponsorship, but a set rate.

So, once that's all finalized and signed, I suppose it's officially a go! I feel like I've put this off for so long that I'm intimidated by my own image of what it should look like. 😅

You could say you are in a "existential crisis" now? :P Good luck with this! The idea was this would be a short series of episodes right? How many are you thinking of making?

What about a short pilot and an old fashioned fund raiser? That way you can test the potential audience?

Way to go on the Audible deal! Dustin from Smarter Every Day has an Audible sponsorship and I've never minded his ads, he always presents a book that's cool and somewhat relevant like Skunkworks or Thunder Below (which is awesome btw). I wasn't listening to Audible for a while but I just renewed to hear Herbie Hancock read his autobiography, Possibilities.

As a philosophy-graduate, I love the idea of watching you explore philosophy :) You always have a wonderfully open and rational mind. In today's stream, you said you'd want to get into "what is reality" and what philosophy and science have to say on that. It's such a fascinating question. ...Without meaning to be too forward, I'd like to make one or two recommendations for resources and keywords - I've found the best resource for getting very good explorations and overviews of philosophical positions (written by experts in the respective sub-fields) is the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy at https://plato.stanford.edu - they also have articles going into the interpretations of quantum mechanics, on philosophical aspects of evolutionary biology and ... well, pretty much anything related to these deep questions :) If you'd like to research some approaches/positions which have been very prominent and relatively successful during the last few decades - I would recommend looking into "Supervenience" (specifically the theories of Jaegwon Kim), "Structural Realism" and "Dispositional Essentialism". Quite technical stuff - but then nobody said these questions were easy to approach. 😅 So glad to see you exploring so many different fascinating topics from tech, society and music - It's consistently awesome!
