Hey everyone, I wanted to make a post showing off a little bit more of the revamped Ruins Of The Human Temple graphics and also get into a bit more of Discover Our Bodies.

Time spent in Blender during Growing My Grandpa! has given me a lot more confidence in setting up and animating 3D scenes that I can convert into 2D scenes.

As you can see here the animations I have for the character portraits are more sophisticated and a little more clear than their previous iterations. Most of my animations in Blender are rendered out into PNGs then thrown into Aseprite to be drawn/animated over further, then imported into Gamemaker Studio 2.

I still intend to keep everything fairly low fidelity, at least compared to most games made by more than one person.

As I’ve reworked many of the elements of the game I’ve tried to put more emphasis on darkness, both narratively and graphically.

Moving onto Discover Our Bodies, here is a re-interpretation of a pretty old sprite animation. I was able to take the 2D sprite into Blender as a plane and then basically model and animate that plane in a light source conducive to giving the rendered out images a little more depth and texture.

(An image of the subject sprite from the side, notice how its not just 2D!)

Of course, this leads to more graphical opportunities because now that I have a psuedo-3D model of a subject sprite, I can more accurately present a detailed view of a subject’s body. So for instance in the mock-up below, there is an overview of the subject and then a zoom to a particular region.

(overview of the sprite that moves into zooming up close to a region of the subject's body. The zoomed in animation is a combination of a zoom-in of the original 3D model and a duplicate 3D model with that portion of the model given more surface detail)

Thanks everyone again for your support, I’m super happy the feedback for Growing My Grandpa! has been so positive, I was so happy to deliver something to you all. With a little more time I will have Ruins Of The Human Temple ready for you too. As always if you have any comments or questions please let me know either in the comment box below, by messaging me on Patreon or finding me on our discord server.

Yames

Awesome work! So glad we can follow you along on the development, and it really inspires me to get out there and make some games too. I wanted to ask what games/developers inspired you to start making games? Was there anything that you saw/played that made you think something like "OK, I'm going to start making a game today"?
