Hi all. Below is the link to the updated release of Altered Heroines. As I've mentioned before the current releases are being developed in Twine.

Mega  (0,14,1 link removed and replaced with 0.14.2)

  • Basic framework is done along with building out most of the shell of Gotham City.
  • Much of the storyline has been reworked for better flow and to allow for more fluidity.
  • Previously Alpha/Beta storylines were due to an early choice of what pill you took. This time,  while taking the pill will start you down that path quicker, the transformation will initially take place slower based on the choices you make.
  • Only a portion of the previous content has been ported over. You can fight in the arena and visit Granny Lin in the evening. There are no random events put in yet and the LexCorp job has not been implemented yet.
  • We've reworked the code a few times, hence the delay,  and now we're going to try to work towards smaller sprints to get content in as quick as possible.
  • To avoid confusion, we're keeping the previous versioning. We'll be using the minor versions (0.14.2, 0.14.3, etc) to work back in the content present in the RPGMaker version. When we go to 0.15 then that will signify that most of the content and storyline is brand new.

Thank you again for your support and your patience while we're working through the transition. Hopefully the hard part is behind us.

  • Thank you for your continued support

Game ends after meeting Barbara, mc in living room no options to go anywhere

I frequent a lot of these sorts of games, and after following what could have been an awesome idea for this one, I have to say I'm rather upset at some of these design decisions. Not only have you been doing a rather poor job at communication, there's several bugs (like when offering the cream only rather than trying to convince her with your mind control, as mentioned above, it gives no option to continue), several portions of the story are out of order, several coding errors of either text missing or failed called functions.... But what is the most upsetting is the blatant rip-off of the exact formatting of UI of another game I've played, also in twine: "The Company". It's almost a literal carbon copy apart from the additions of Attributes and Powers (which I did like!). I don't even mind how the EXP bars are also exactly the same as another game, "Secretary", because it at least makes sense here. I would have preferred something slightly more original (at least a different color scheme), but overall, this feels entirely like it's ripped off of much better quality games that have a better understanding of doing things in a unique style. The RPGMaker MV version was unique enough, and I think if you all had focused on doing something unique with it more-so, like fleshing out the powers and combat like you did in this one, it would not only be distinct but stand out among many of the other inferior RPGMaker games. There are ways to even revamp the combat system on there if you want it even more RP themed like in this (a good example is YonYon's Zombie and Zombie R, made in RPGMaker VX Ace). There's even a CARD GAME in RPGMaker MV in a game called Orchard University Recarded. But with all this straight up ripping off from other games with no attempt to do something unique with this amount of time, then I'm sad to say that I will not support this game and suggest others boycott this as well until DefShock Creations decides to move forward with the originality they started with, and not the potential plagiarism they've created. I loved the setting, and the original direction, and I think this is currently a mistake.

We're working to get this fixed and will update the link when done.

Thanks for the feedback. I understand where you're coming from, somewhat. We lost one of our main team members when we were coding in RPG Maker MV and trying to have a more random story with multiple branches started to be come problematic when we tried to continue. The lack of communication is totally on me, as we struggled to get the wind back in our sails and continue on. I wanted to avoid any ‘woe is us’ posts because the behind the scenes drama is really irrelevant. As for similarities in the UI there were certain things we saw starting out and we enjoyed how those games played out. Most Twine games have a similar feel, and as we code a combat system the feeling was why wait another 3+ months when we’re getting pinged constantly behind the scenes when the next release will be out. The content and story is entirely original, especially the graphics and animations, and we’re introducing our own concepts and code as we do further development. This is really the first alpha release of a game undergoing re-design, and instead of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, we decided to move ahead with what we had for this month. I get the irritation, but not sure the boycott request is fair. There are some cool design elements we like in other games, but we’re not copying and pasting our code into someone else’s game, and that will be apparent the more releases that come out. We’re discussing your feedback and will make sure that we distinguish the play style of our game compared to the other releases out there.

While it still has it's problems, I personally think switching to the HTML format is a much better option than RPG Maker, the RPG version was way too empty feeling and glitchy, as long as you keep adding pictures, branching paths, and maybe some unique events and encounters I think the game will be great, and I think copying elements from other games is fine as long as it fits and is done well

To start, I want to say I came across harsher than I would normally, mainly for the fact that I wanted to elicit a response (which I did) due to the extreme lack of communication in the past few months. I'll be providing constructive criticism, and maybe a few suggestions as to how to fix what seems to be is a case of shooting Wonder Woman in the foot and not her bracers. To start, you didn't need to do a "woe is us" post, but knowing that you had lost a team member would have been useful information to know. An example of something you could have written would be: --Hey everyone, while we're transitioning over to twine, I wanted to take the time to let you all know that a major factor in this decision was that we lost a team member who was really assisting the driving force behind us using RPGMaker MV. While we do this transition to Twine, please give us some time due to the lack of manpower and be patient with as we are still working on this, abit at a slower rate. Thank you. -- That would have left us with a sense of knowing that things are being worked on, and that we can expect things to be a bit slower in the coming future. Instead, we're left waiting for several months with a very occasional post of "Still working on it!" and don't even reply to the comments of people wanting to get an update when you had given a specific time-frame. You want to immediately respond to this post when I mention money, but don't want to respond to it when others are wondering who-what-where after you said one thing and didn't deliver? You're sending mixed messages, and need to prioritize communication, or you'll lose more people. Even if it's a simple "Yup, still working on it! Here's some highlights!". That lets us know things are progressing and not stagnating, which they have been for some time. I'm not suggesting a daily thing, but more frequent than once every month or two moving forward.
