Hi all!

We're happy to finally release this month's build of YL2 for our enthusiast tier patrons.

Since I (odes) have been preoccupied working on the cloud implementation, this build has mostly been focused on new content and fixes. Hopefully, we should have an early version of the cloud ready for the next build!

Other news

As some of you may know, YL2 has problems running on integrated intel graphics hardware. This month we've spent some time investigating why this is, and what could be done about it. Unfortunately, our conclusion is that YL2 simply is too demanding to run on integrated graphics. Rather, a dedicated graphics card is required that has support for DX11 and compute shaders. An integrated chip will not cut it.

We hope you all have a nice evening!

All the best.

Amazing job! The dragon is just incredibly cute. I hope you can figure out the problems with YL2.

About integrated graphics, it just depends on what kind of integrated graphics. I just tested a laptop with a Ryzen 5 CPU, using only the integrated Radeon Vega 8 Graphics card and it works well at 1920x1080. Framerate is not stellar, but its perfectly usable (about 20fps on the default bunny and nature environment, and 60fps on HDRI environments)

Yeah to be frank I'm not quite sure why it doesn't work on intel hardware. I investigated this thoroughly and it made absolutely no sense. Shaders wouldn't execute properly. Like, I could literally program the simplest of shaderes to make a certain thing happen but it wouldn't work. It's like I'm hitting an undocumented cap or something, and everything just falls apart. It might have something to do with Intel chips faking memory. I.e. they have essentially no VRAM, but instead rely on onboard RAM. Same thing with compute shaders. They simply just don't work the same on intel hardware as on all other hardware. So eventually I just gave up. It doesn't make sense to try and adapt things for an integrated chip that hardly runs the game anyway. Nvidia and AMD hardware seems to be fine though, so that's nice. I don't think it's too much to ask that a user actually has gaming suitable hardware.

Welp. Time to buy a new pc...
