Hey guys, kind of a short, pictureless, technical post this time >.<'

First up- Work with SkySprinter on the music is going well! They've been streaming their progress in my Discord server, if you want sneak peeks :3

What's being worked on?

Oof, so here's the deal. I've been doing animation code again.

Spine, my animation software, just dropped a ton of QoL improvements in the exact areas I've been hoping for. My intuition said I should update my code in order to work with this new version, so I dove head-first into that. It's gone smoothly, and I finished the final chunk of the version migration on today's stream. A few errors to sort out, but they're not the bad kind.

But, typing up this update, I realized I've spent a whole week on that, when I assumed I'd pound it out in a day or two. In a previous post, I said I wouldn't be making any more big code changes. This is... kind of a gray area on that front. I feel guilty about the decision now.

The new Spine update was big, but it's also backward-compatible, and focused on editor-side changes. Not really the kind of thing that'll cause more bugs to fix in the game. It's not like the previous Spine update, which required a near-full-rewrite. The benefits are also guaranteed to be useful.

But it took a solid week of work to do. Rationalizations aside, it's hard to overlook that. I probably should've stuck to my earlier plans and waited on this one. No point in not using the new stuff now, but... yeah.

Since I'm posting these weekly updates, it's making me more aware of when a decision like this turns out to be a time sink. I'll do my best to be more careful about this kind of thing. Now isn't the time to be allowing scope creep.

A super sneaky side project!

Okay bear with me. I know I just said the scope creep thing. So until the SHF3 update is done, I'm putting exactly zero development time into this. No distractions. This is an experiment in outsourcing.

I'm teaming up with the fantastic PussPuss (support) on a one-shot project.

We've got a decent concept so far! We'll both be posting content as it's ready to show for this, and we're planning to release it for free when it's done!

I talked about starting up some smaller side projects after this update's release, and promised to include this community in the conversation about what direction to take. That's still the plan. This thing is kind of a test run for outsourcing my content creation pipeline. If it goes well, it'll be a proof-of-concept to use in that exact conversation.

Q: Ahegao?

A: Yes.

[FAQ end]

Aaaand that's all for now!

I'm trying to be as open as possible about each step of this process. Feedback and criticism are always welcome. I feel like I probably made a mistake this week, but I'm not looking for permission or forgiveness by talking about it here. This kind of mistake comes with the territory. I hope that by next week, I'll get to guiltily show off the rewards of that mistake xD

Thank you all so much for continuing to follow me. Maybe art streams starting soon!?
