As soon as I entered the Adventurers Guild with my familiars, the Guild Master appeared at the door to greet us. I think he must have been waiting all morning…

“You’re finally here! Well? Did you bring the test potion?”

“Yes but surely there’s no need to hurry? I’d like to pick up the meat and materials…”

“We can do that later. Come, let’s go to my room.”

I was quickly herded into the Guild Master’s room before I could say anything [5] and was pushed into the visitor’s chair while the Guild Master sat opposite me and stared at me with large hopeful eyes.

[8] “Alright, show me the goods. Let us commence with the testing!”

[6] This guy probably won’t let me go unless I give him the ‘potion’. Resigned to my fate, I took out the hair-restoring tonic from my [Item Box] [5]. [1] Naturally, I’ve moved it from its original plastic container into a plain bottle.

“Th- this is it…” [3] the Guild Master’s eyes fixed themselves onto the bottle [5].

Interestingly enough, [Net Super] carried several different brands of hair restoring tonics. [1] Although it’s not quite the medical grade tonic that could be found at pharmacies or drugstores, the fact that several brands of the same item could be found at supermarket level online stores meant that demand for hair restoring medicine was very high.

Looks like people cared a lot about their hair.

I chose a tonic that promises to promote hair growth and suppress hair loss. [1] I must say I was equally attracted to the gold and black box it came in as well as the description that says the tonic will ‘stimulate the protein in hair root cells to promote hair growth’.

“By the way, if you use the tonic together with this special shampoo, you can expect better results,” I said, placing the shampoo (bottle already switched) from the same brand on the table.

According to the description: The shampoo would 'remove excess sebum stains on the scalp to promote better tonic absorption'.

Anyway, it looks convincing enough. At least, it’s convincing enough for me to buy it…

[9] Last night, while I was looking through [Net Super’s] hair growth products and found W brand’s shampoo and hair tonic set has the most attractive description.

[9] Even so…

“[5] The effects won't be immediate?” [5]

[6] In fact, most hair growth tonics only dare to conservatively guarantee results after 'six weeks of continuous use'.

[6] Six weeks is a long time in this world where potions that could fix broken legs and heal injuries right away exists.

[9] I guess since it’s something from [Net Super] it should work well? At least, it should be better than anything I’d find on earth, right?

Still, it would be nice to have something with an instant effect [5], especially since I plan to gift it to a count of this world...

[9] You know what? I should really give this a little more thought.

“Hmm, immediate effect. Medicines with immediate effects… should I try mixing the different [Net Super] hair tonics together? No, that’s dangerous, it’s not like every tonic is made the same way. Should I mix the tonic with something from this world? After all Sui’s Elixirs all have immediate… effect…”

“...that’s it! Sui’s Elixirs!” [5]

Sui’s Elixirs are effective against all diseases and hair loss should be considered a disease, right?

Or is it considered part of ageing?

Sui’s Elixirs (low grade) can’t extend lifespan but if I mix it with the hair tonic would it boost the lifespan of hair?

[9] Would it work?

[9] I have so many questions but since I have [Appraisal] and Sui to make more elixirs for me, I guess it’s fine to try mixing stuff and see what happens, right?

[9] Right.

[9] Let’s do this!

Thus, I try putting a single drop of Sui’s Elixir into the hair tonic (which has been decanted into a ceramic bottle by the way) and waited.

For a moment, nothing happened. Then, the bottle suddenly glowed and the transparent liquid that was the hair tonic turned into a clear, pale pink.

“Ou! Th- the colour changed,”

[9] When nothing else happened, I used [Appraisal] on the bottle:

[Divine Medicine, Hair Power!]

Divine medicine, created from the combination of Sui’s Special Elixir (low grade) and Hair Tonic from another world. Produces outstanding hair restoration effects and promotes new hair growth. Desperate people struggling with thinning hair and hair loss now have the hope of recapturing their lost youth.

Bufo! [5] J-just what kind of effect is this? Also… Divine Medicine? And, what’s with this ‘desperate people’ description...?”

[5]

[9] Was what I thought back then, until the moment I sat down in front of one of these ‘desperate people’.

“Well? Well? How do I use it?” [9] the Guild Master cradled the two bottles in his hands carefully, as though they contained the secret to eternal life.

[9] Or maybe eternal youth.

[9] Which, I guess, it's not too far off the mark.

“Use the content of the second bottle to wash your hair at night. Remember to lather well and wash all the dirt and oil away. This is so that the contents of the hair tonic could penetrate your scalp more thoroughly.”

Umu, wash with this and clean up properly.”

“Make sure to wipe off the water until your hair is partially dry. Then, apply a bit of the hair tonic on and massage it slowly into your scalp.”

“Massage this onto the scalp, I see,” [10] he squinted his eye at the bottle of tonic seriously.

I felt like I had to say something, “[10] Ah, you should just use a small amount each day. Using too much in one go doesn’t improve the effect so it would just go to waste.”

Probably.

“Alright, I shall use it tonight,” despite his slightly reluctant look, the Guild Master carefully put both bottles away in his desk drawer.

“…then, I shall go downstairs and pick up my meat and money,”

“…aah…”

“… …” his mind is totally inside the drawer with the hair restoring tonic, I just knew it.

I got up and silently left the room, leaving the distracted Guild Master alone. [5]

‘Desperate people’ indeed.

Anyway, I know my way to the warehouse and called out to Old Man Johan.

“Hello, I’m here to pick up the meat.”

“Ou! Brother! It’s all ready for you.”

I happily received the meats from Wyvern, Wild Bison, Golden Sheep, Giant Horned Boar, Rock Bird, Blue Bull, Giant Turkey and Chimera. [5]

Wow, that’s a lot.

Looks like I won’t have to worry about not having meat for a while. [2] Next was the money for the materials. After explaining the breakdown of the monster parts to me, everything came down to

“…7,685 gold.”

[4] “Ooh, that’s quite a lot. How unexpected,” I mused.

“Deals with you are always quite significant but we do have Wyverns and a Chimera on the table this time,” explained Johan.

“Oh yes, Chimeras are pretty rare, right?”

“Yup, fur, fang, poison sac, and various internal organs are all important materials for one thing or another. So they are always in demand.” Johan-san handed me a small sack. [5] “76 platinum and 85 gold coins in the sack, please check it.”

I’m pretty quick at counting the local money now, “Yup, everything checks out.”

“Bring us something rare again next time, yeah?” [7] Johan looked particularly cheerful.

“It all depends on what Fer and the others come across. However, if we do get something interesting, I’ll be happy to do business with you again!”

[9] For some reason, there’s a page break here AND a repeat of what’s written just 2 paragraphs earlier which turned out to be a random flashback. Looks like the author is experimenting? There’s been quite a few of these lately but the unexpected page break is new.

Gumi decided to just read > understand > rewrite into convincing stream of thoughts + logical sentence arrangements

[10] ‘the amount is small’ not sure why Mukouda specifically mentions this? Ok, the next chapter clarified this.
