An apology (Patreon)

Hi again. After having a conversation with one of my patrons, I just want to apologize for drawing self-indulgent art instead of focusing on monthly poll. I admit this year hasn't been the best for me, and as you know I'm still working on the Blacksad zine and other IRL things. I thought that people would be happy for any update here, but I admit it's selfish of me for not working on patreon stuff first.
I will make some changes regarding the monthly poll, probably shorten the suggestion/voting time by 1-2 days, so I have more time to finish it. I will also start accepting Blacksad characters again, but only put max. 2 characters in a poll per month.
Regarding about what suggestions I pick, I do not look at how many up votes it has, because then it would only be popular characters and I'd like to give the obscure ones a chance too. However, there might be a case where I put 1-2 popular ones in the poll to make it balanced.
And please, if you have any suggestions how can I improve or make your stay more enjoyable, don't be afraid to DM me. Thank you very much.

Look, all I did was attempt to give a suggestion or say how I felt about the situation at hand since you clearly felt that was an issue. I didn't even say draw less self indulgent stuff; I just suggested maybe at least seeing more other things too like the poll content first or if that was stressful, just reducing the poll to only things you wanna draw or suggestion boxes that can be stored for use later, like some others do. And from the looks of it like i figured, people would be more than receptive of you just doing what you wanted, so it seems less polls for less of these worries on your end would be good. But through the convo is seemed like just me suggesting or saying anything that wasn't just going "good job I'm 100% with you" got met with passive aggressiveness and telling me I can leave if I don't like how you run things when all I did was offer suggestions seeing you were stressed worrying about all this. It just rubbed me the wrong way the response, and I do hope you don't actually see it as an attack on your person.

I get you're trying to help, but you constantly saying I should stop doing the polls won't change my mind. Like I said I'll try changing some stuff and see if it helps. I told you to leave because I just wanna be done discussing this. I'm sorry if I seemed aggressive, but please respect my decisions

I didn't say stop the polls definitely. I was suggesting ways to alleviate stress and if you don't think that works for you than fine. No problem with that. I do however have a problem being repeatedly told to leave just cause I gave the suggestion. Respecting your decision or not, that came off as antagonistic

I originally started following you for your Blacksad fan art; but stayed because I enjoyed your style and seeing what you really enjoyed. You shouldn't feel bad for drawing what makes you happy on top of whatever suggestions you take from the fans. Quite frankly it sounds like someone was just upset they weren't getting to see what THEY wanted, and we're trying to emotionally blackmail you over it. I'd say stick with whatever makes you feel most leveled and productive.

Maybe unpopular opinion, but I prefer when an artist draws what they want, even if it means breaking promises to followers. It's your art, and your feelings about it do matter, far more than mine or anyone else's. As long as you're being kind and healthy about it, you can draw anything you want for all I care.

Honestly, whatever art that makes you happy is the best reason to keep going at the pace that you feel most comfortable in. I am always glad to see your self-indulgent art and I have enjoyed everything that you have created, since I became a patron. If you stuck to a work process of drawing/posting whatever you wanted, then you will still have people who will love what you bring to them! ✌️
