Hi there! How is it going today?

This week, I'm pretty excited to introduce our newest addition to the Paralives Team! Christine also prepared a recap of our latest community brainstorming about careers and jobs. Finally, We're kicking off our new monthly community brainstorming with a Patreon poll. Let's get started!

💪 New Team Member: A Producer

Hello everyone! I’m Camille, the newest member of the Paralives team! It’s so nice to meet you all!

I always liked video games, especially simulation games. Animal Crossing in particular, helped me go through difficult time in my life by providing me a very welcome piece of heaven and tranquility. Despite my passion for it, I never thought that I could one day join the industry.

Fortunately, I did!

I moved to Montreal and started studying game design. During my studies I did an internship (as a QA tester) and got lucky enough to keep that first job after graduation. However. *dramatic pause* People started to notice my OCD and love for organization. So, one day, my superior suggested I took another position that was "fairly similar but with a bit more responsibilities". I was now a project coordinator… -and yes, those two jobs have nothing in common, in case you were wondering- At that point I was officially part of the "dark side": management. *gasp*. I loved it very much and kept progressing to finally become a producer. Fast-forward to today, that’s the position I will occupy, here at Paralives Studio!

The role and responsibilities of a producer vary a bit from a studio to another, so let me explain what it entails. There are two important aspects in this job; the purely "analytical" side and the "human oriented" one.

The analytic side includes any organization tasks such as: (Non-exhaustive list)

  • Setting and maintaining the project direction and priorities
  • Balancing the workload based on objectives/deadlines
  • Adapting any process or meeting to enhance communication/structure,… within the team
  • Creating/keeping production documents/software updated (project tracking app, roadmap,…)
  • Removing impediments out of the team’s way

And the human side: (Non-exhaustive list)

  • Meeting everyone individually, on a regular basis to keep track of their personal goals and well-being within the company
  • Performance review
  • Personalized coaching plan (if wanted/needed)
  • …Hope it helps clarify things a bit!

To conclude, I’m very honored to be a part of the team. You guys are an AMAZING community and I hope that my contribution will be helpful.

🤝 Recruitment Update

We are now 9 people on the team! We have grown so much because of the support of all of you Patrons! As you may know, we were originally looking for a user interface designer. However, as the team grew, we felt the need to hire a producer instead to help us with many things mentioned in the above section of this post. Some people on our team will be able to cover for the work needed regarding the game menus and user interface design. Also, we have contacts that we might end up working with for some short contracts to help us with user interface design and the user experience in general.

We are now very close to having a full team! We are looking for another experienced 3D artist and a music composer (we'll have some news regarding that position very soon!)

💼 Career Community Brainstorming Recap  (For Patrons only! Please don't share)

Christine here for a recap of the latest community brainstorming session about careers and everything work-related! As always, a big thank you to everyone who shared ideas, feedback, even concept images (there were some really great ones ✨) on our Discord and Reddit as well as here on Patreon.

Now, careers are pretty much self-explanatory and, for some, they aren’t necessarily fun, whether it is in real life or in a game. However, with everything that has been suggested by the community, there are definitely a lot of great gameplay opportunities and I can tell you that, in Paralives, Work = Fun for players™️.

We have multiple ideas on our list to look into, thanks to all of you! At the moment, these are not confirmed but they are an excellent starting point to establish our vision for careers and jobs.

  • Having multiple workplaces for the same type of job (each with distinctive elements)
  • Having multiple jobs at the same time
  • Ability of working certain jobs as a freelance or from home
  • Part-time jobs and side gigs for teenagers and adults (think babysitting, repairs, coaching)
  • Branching careers: bouncing around similar-ish positions instead of moving linearly up. For example purposes: a teacher could end up working for the government in the education department or even writing books
  • Finding new job listings everyday (newspapers, web, bulletin boards, going directly to workplaces) or posting job-seeking advertisements
  • Distinctive elements to each job: requirements, tasks, schedule options, salary, benefits, dress code, commute options, travelling, etc
  • Having to apply, go to interviews, do qualification tests if needed, negotiate hours and salary
  • Being able to stall progression (refuse a promotion, request fewer hours or a demotion)
  • “Active” tasks / errands: being able to do certain things at home to further improve your career. For example purposes: let’s say you are a lawyer and bring home some research work, this could be the thing that makes or breaks your case!
  • Events in a Para’s personal life having an effect on work (less sleep could lead to poor performance, bringing food to coworkers could improve work relationships, etc.)
  • Regular jobs in different fields (healthcare, education, social, blue and white collar, hospitality, business, transport, technical, art, science and many more!)
  • Some cool hidden careers (think spy, criminal, secret investor, street artist). Maybe you would need to be approached to get those
  • Not being obligated to have a job and being able to get by on gigs and sheer luck
  • Ability to mod / create careers

Ok, that’s enough for today! Did you spot something in that list that you would particularly like to see in Paralives? Let us know in the comments!

🏫 New Community Brainstorming : Schools and Education  (For Patrons only! Please don't share)

Education is a big part of the lives of children and young adults so schools are very important in a life simulation game. That's why we picked schools and education as the topic for the next monthly brainstorming session! Even though you won't be able to follow your Parafolks to school in Paralives at launch, we have plenty of cool features in mind for education and schools.

Please tell us any ideas or suggestions you might have regarding this topic in the comments down below. We are eager to read you! Next week, we will announce this monthly brainstorming to the public. Some questions you might ask yourself as part of this brainstorming:

  • What kind of schools should there be in Paralives?
  • How will education impact a Para's life and their future?
  • Which activities and skills should Paras be able to do and learn at school?

📊 Poll: Gameplay Elements Related to School  (For Patrons only! Please don't share)

Which of the following important gameplay features related to education would you like to see in Paralives? Please vote in the poll below and tell us if you have more ideas in the comments!

Thank you!

Alex

I think it would be cool if kids have vacations. It could change the routine of a house completely.

Anonymous

I love the idea of being in a cliche in school like the geeks or the jocks etc :) and maybe you have to do certain things to be “in” with specific cliche and they affect your personality:)

Anonymous

I'd love to see alternatives to education validated - people who drop out gain other advantages that complement those who excel academically, and education for vocations rather than just college. I'd also love to see some acknowledgement of school relationships as a memory or special relationship or the like - those childhood friends (or enemies), or college room mates, or the like being distinct from later friends. Love the ideas you have and can't wait to see what you implement!

Anonymous

I'd love to see like school dances and social events also competitions for different extra curriculars that anyone can go to like talent shows, sport games, chess tournament, spelling bee, debates things like that

Private schools, cost a lot but the children learn more/faster

Scarlletta

For me having various options for schools would be nice. Including homeschooling, standard school and private school. Private school could require money to enter, and money to stay with faster skills built as a result. Adding preschool or daycares for small children could also boost skills. I also think it would be nice if a child is friends or close to an adult with a certain skill, it boosts their ability to learn that skill or they gain an interest for it, (which can go away if they are no longer close.) for example if an adult paints and the child see them paint often they can be interested in it and receive a boost for practicing it.

Zahlea

Welcome Camille! So exciting ❤️❤️

Lucas

Private schools, colleges, universities, school buses, after school clubs, GCSE exams and A levels,

Anonymous

It would also be interesting to see a boarding school option!

Michael

This made me so happy! Loved how you synthesized the exhaustive careers discussion! Loved your takeaways! For education: I feel strongly that university / post grad vocational schools should be built into the game as a sort of rabbit hole or placeholder. Allow me to explain. I believe it’s been confirmed that an interactive Uni experience is NOT going to be in the base game. However, it feels weird to just ignore that experience as some jobs require it. So what I’m proposing: After high school graduation, you can apply via a menu to university. If you get in, then you get a popup to pay tuition, select your major, and other options. Your para then leaves the home lot for about a week (duration TBD) and then arrives back in the town with the degree and whatever skills they’ve obtained. This works because while some schools have local commuters, with local schools you would have to simulate the specific class times and details and homework which seems to be out of scope of the base game. I think just shipping your para off and then they arrive back home is a good idea as a start.

Anonymous

I like the idea of homework, but it shouldn’t take too long to do, like it does in the sims

Hannah

Welcome Camille <3 I’d love to see trade schools, internships, residencies, etc. I also think the option to hire or offer your services as a tutor would be cool. As for homework, one thing I feel like has been missing is, especially in grade school, group projects of some sort.

Anonymous

After-school events such as dances or trips away!

Domon0310

School related events like prom, school field trips, science fairs, matches of a school's sports team

Anonymous

I'm not a huge fan of the homework for the kids when they come back at home, I would like them to taking care of it at school.

Anonymous

I would love to see extra curricular activities effect jobs/higher education options as well! Maybe didn’t have great grades but took AP classes, got first place in the science fair, and played soccer? You’re hired!

Eva-Maria

I know it's very "niche" but in Germany we have something called apprenticeship where you learn certain jobs directly at a company or workplace instead of university. It's more hands on, for example for poeple working in construction, with machines or in Quality laboratories. It can take between 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 years and I would love to have something like that in a life simulation. It's the way I got to learn my job (: Also, welcome Camille! 🥰

Anonymous

Homework should also be skill building of some kind, or adds a special ability/better understanding of a skill.. or makes you hate a skill

Anonymous

First off for the careers I think the secret jobs is such a cool idea I would love to see that implemented in the game! I also love the idea of being able to survive gig to gig!

Anonymous

All the best to the Paralives team! So exciting to see it grow, congrats and welcome Camille! One thing about education that I think would be cool but may be a bit controversial would be bullies/social pressure that can suddenly cause the child's grades to go down, and have parents or guardians intervene. Or maybe even a lighter version of this as a pop-up event that you see in the Sims.

Anonymous

Ooh I'm excited by alternative learning styles. I would like to see some Montessori or Waldorf style education options for daycare, kindergarten, school, highschool, and especially homeschool (I'm thinking child sized accessible furniture and books and skill building options). When homeschooling as an education option, I think the parent would need very specific skills or the ability to learn very specific skills to be able to teach their children well. A homeschoolers community club within the game could also be a great idea! I would also be interested in seeing people and children having disabilities in the game. I work in the field of disability and see a great diversity of individuals and individual learning styles. Welcome to the team Camille and love all the ideas for work 😍

Anonymous

No homework (check out Finland)! But maybe some extracurricular activities could include study sessions, group work for projects...

Anonymous

Yes! I would love to see apprenticeship as a thing in Paralives. It has become niche but it used to be more common and it would be fun to see it implemented

Christine Harvey

I would love a variety of different schools that impact career opportunities. A regular school A military school An art school A private/preparatory school A vocational school If we wanted to get fancy, juniors and seniors in high school can take an exam like the SATs or ACTs and those could determine what university they could get into. Alternatively, that could be based just off of their "grade" in school. If possible, it would be great to see university as a rabbit hole and allow the degrees to assist in getting a job. It could be set up just like regular school, where the para lives at home, or live with a friend, or moves to a new town, but then at class time, the Para just go into a rabbit hole "outside of town" to do your university. The Para comes home when class is done, just like a job. I feel like it would add to game play if a Dr needed a degree in medicine or something. Someone who only has a high school degree wouldn't necessarily have the qualifications to be a doctor. We could then make the para study or do research or whatever from home. I like the idea of homework for school kids, as long as it doesn't take hours and hours to get done.

Anonymous

I think that having a robust selection of school types is super exciting for primary education (I.e.: public, private, homeschool) . I think there’s an even greater opportunity for it with college and university too! It would be so cool to be able to choose from options like community college, trade school, public university, private university, prestigious university (think Ivy League) and Art School (my favorite option). Each of these university types could come with their own advantages and disadvantages, maybe at the trade school your practical skills level up much faster than at other schools (same for artistic skills at art schools) and disadvantages could be higher financial costs for prestigious or private schools.

Ryn

Maybe there can be more than one school option with different quirks? Like public school is free but includes homework and less enriching possibilities, private school could cost money but have more opportunities and families who can't afford it could apply for a grant or free tuition. I thought it was fun in Sims 2 how getting into private school involved schmoozing the headmaster. And private school may not have homework every day but longer term more creative projects/studying needed.

Anonymous

I second the idea that alternatives to education should be validated and come with their own advantages! Many people who don’t excel in education go on to be successful

Adina

I work at a school myself, and one thing I would love to see, is that reaction to bad/good grades depend on the family. Like if the family is academics, then the kid will feel bad if they get bad grades, but on the contrary, a person who maybe wants to be a performer don't really expect and react as much

Anonymous

It would be great to have different high school options: one that offers "general" theoretical education after which Paras would continue to study at University, and ones where Paras would study for a specific manual profession such as hairdressers, plumbers, electricians. This then subsequently impacts their future careers and salaries. University could be divided into various departments - philosophy studies, math sciences, etc. Students with bad grades should have a harder time finishing studies in high school or Uni. If they dropped out, it could also hinder their career prospects and progress.

teeth.keeper

I would absolutely LOVE the option for a boarding school !

Ryn

Yes! Vocational school would be a great option where paras could learn extra skills and get a leg up in some jobs. Maybe boarding school could even be an option for very rich families.

Anonymous

Private school (Non-boarding) please! I love that thing in Sims 2 where you had to impress the headmaster in order to get your kid into private school!

Jaylene N

welcome! I’d love to see school related activities mostly. I agree with other comments that said field trips, school dances, study groups maybe??

Anonymous

I would really like to see education have a direct impact on job prospects. E.g. having the best grades means a Para can progress really far into their career, or its easier, etc. but if they didn't complete highschool or had poor grades then they can't progress as far or it's more difficult, maybe they can't get certain jobs with poor grades. It would also be cool if university had an impact like this if it was eventually introduced!

Anonymous

I would love, after a general primary/middle school, the possibility to choose a specialized high school. In Italy for example, you go to different high schools. Some prepare you for jobs right away (mechanic, electrician, secretary, tourism...) others are more oriented to future university, so you have scientific, humanistic, social studies, languages and art. It would be fun to have different high school change the probability you enter certain universities, or determining what kind of jobs it's more easy you'll get hired at!

Anonymous

I would personally love to see a good amount of after school activities. They are such a large part of our personal interest and growth outside of formal education. Some of my fondest memories from school are from the after school activities they offered. Dance, drama club, FFA, and so so much more. These kinds of activities could give our para kids Opportunities to learn new skills and socialize.

Anonymous

That seems like a very US-centric thing. Where I'm from, there are no cliques and anybody can be friends with pretty much anybody. Certain people do have common interests, of course, but the whole "jocks" vs "nerds" vs the "theatre kids" thing seems quite exclusive and outdated, as well as restrictive for us as players. A person can be interested in several different things at once, after all, such as sports AND theatre.

Lauren

PROM PROM PROM PROM, detentions? Parent/teacher evenings, graduation! All of those would be so cute!

Lauren

Nurseries and kindergartens would be so cute! 🥺

Kanchaross J.

Welcome! I hope I can join your guys someday. Many people have already mentioned it. I'd love to see private schools and maybe school projects rather than a "typical" homework.

Anonymous

The option of sending kids to private school rather then public school would be fun. Also being able to play the kids while at school would definitely be something new.

Sarah

I would LOVE after school activities. And not necessarily even school-based activities either. For example (at least in the US), after school activities weren't really a thing until middle/high school, however kids often had extracurriculars like sports or dance or music lessons. I would love to see some of that happen in the game! Maybe a para takes dance lessons out-of-pocket as a kid, and then when they reach high school there's a school-related dance team. Or a kid takes piano lessons, then joins high school band/orchestra! It would be a great way to connect "real life" with "school life" for young paras.

NHFoodie

It would be fun if teens could have a rabbit hole trip to visit colleges. Maybe they could also do some job shadowing for school and have a whim to pursue a certain career if they have a good experience or avoid one they really didn’t like!

Anonymous

I would definitely like schooling options. Public school, private school, and homeschooling. The option for teenage Para's to drop out of school (for more realistic gameplay). For those schooling options to impact opportunities later (what what college you could go to, or what jobs you could get). And regular school events that the children (and their parents) could attend. Like open houses or parent/teacher nights. But also school dances and after school clubs.

Anonymous

I would love to see Private School introduced where only rich sims can afford to send their kids.

Julka

I would love to see private schools with uniforms etc for rich and smart kids

Anonymous

Great idea! Also be cool if poor paras could get a scholarship for private school.

Anonymous

I would love to have options of schools or homeschooling, like private vs public schools and have like 2 to 4 schools to choose, and each have different specialities like art school, tech school etc. And like teachers in private schools have better pay but must give their full attention to their own class and have requirements, but public school are cheaper than private and making lots of diverse friends or having diverse activities or have like sporting teams, science competition etc

Vanessa

For High school and Colleges/Cégep/University, it would be great for students to have to pick options class each school year so that they may broaden their insterests and skills. This system could also apply for extra-curricular activities and clubs (including primary school). I'd love to see trade school options also and specialized school like a music conservatory, art institute, etc. Maybe those options class could help students get into those specialized school (like: having your music skill prerequisite a little lower or something) Also, if the option is available for exchange students, that could be a nice add to welcome a student from afar at homes for one school year!

Anonymous

And lots children/parents events or parents show up for their children competitions

Jordacious

Okay so I think having optional Pre-school for toddlers and then required school for children and teens is important. Some people dont always put their kids in pre-school so having it be an optional thing would be nice. 2) I like the idea of having other school options like a private school or boarding schools that maybe specialize in certain skills or careers would be neat to have. Say for example, you have a child who wants to go to a science boarding school well they need to fill out the pre-requisites first in order to apply. Boarding and Private schools should also cost money and be more expensive but provide a better learning experience or faster skill learning in comparison to public school. 3) School events and after school activities I feel like is a must have. Maybe offer different clubs for paras to join and hopefully learn some extra skills or interests. Also special events like school dances, proms, parents day etc. 4) One last thing to add, chance cards would be great to have as well! I like the idea of things going on at school that could happen. Yes, paras go off screen to school but it's nice to think that there are things going on throughout their day. For example: Let's say a para forgot to do their homework and there's a chance that their teacher had a pop quiz that same day and because they didn't do the homework: They can either try their best or maybe cheat on the quiz. Or another example: They've got a strong relationship with a classmate and they've learned during school that the classmate has a crush on them, what they decide to do will affect their current relationship.

Welcome, Camille!!! I really liked everything everyone wrote before me (Private schools, dance, music and sport lessons after school, etc,) so I do see the point of writing them again... It probably also been written before me and I missed it....but I would love it if the kids and teens will a field trip, or even a camping trip and they be out of the hose for a night or longer... Also, dances and parties like prom and graduation... Thank you for your hard work!

Anonymous

Will there be universities/colleges?

Anonymous

How cool would it be to have a non rabbit hole boarding school

Anonymous

I would love to see different types of schools, like a free school that every para gets accepted into and a school that you have to test into and maintain really good grades and also a school that's REALLY expensive and elitist (but maybe they don't care about grades very much?), I think it would make for a fun way to differentiate kid paras from each other and make child- and teenhood interesting!

Anonymous

As someone who was homeschooled, I would love a homeschooling option.

Anonymous

I'm so excited to see y'all're gonna have some blue collar career options! Very excited to see where y'all go with that!!

Anonymous

To add to that, it would be nice with prompts of perhaps who you want to try and befriend, or at least be able to chose who NOT to befriend :)

First, welcome to Camille and congratulations for becoming a member of our fabulous and extremely talented Paralives team!! Next. I would like 'electives' to be a available such as art, drama, shop, etc. to further a para student's special interests which will help shape their future careers and lifstyles. Also, sport activities such as track, soccer, football, basketball, and tournaments and competitions, too. I believe all the above will add so many gameplay possibilities for young paras and their family members in the game. I'm loving everything this wonderful team is creating for us and the shared vision and committment of the Paralives community and supporters! So glad to be a part of it!!

Let’s not forget charter schools! I went to a charter school for middle school and it was amazing. Sometimes they’re private, but most are public schools that have private boards made of the parents and teachers (my dad, who was an drafting engineer at the time, was on the board of my school). They specialize in certain subjects, curriculum, or class size. Entry into these kinds of schools is usually a lottery and/or a small fee. I think these would be a great addition to making education more flexible and individual. Plus, I think I’d be really awesome for a parent para to be able to participate on these school boards to make decisions in pop-up votes or something like that.

Megan Santucci

I would really like variety in homework + skill building via homework. Depending on what skills we have, of course. So to build writing skill they might write in a workbook, sure (or on a computer in upper grades!) but if they were building science skill they could have a little experiment to bring home. If the Parakid was taking a music class, they could bring home a recorder and annoy their parents to death. 🤣 I would also like it if Parakids in upper grades had the option of registering for classes. (I'm in the US; I don't know if this differs in other countries.) They should probably have a few core classes (writing and math and whatever) but plenty of choices for electives and extracurriculars. The high school my IRL kids are going to attend eventually has a ROBOTICS TEAM. HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE. The classes Parakids and Parateens take could eventually affect their future careers, again depending on what kind of skills we get. Like a Parateen who takes a lot of extra science courses and joins the robotics team will have a leg up in the skills they need to go to university and get an engineering degree. A Parateen who really enjoyed that recorder they brought home as a kid could join the school band in upper grades and from there become a professional musician. Things like that.

BonaparteBardithion .

Would like to see two options for this. When I was homeschooled we worked out of books and my mother was the teacher. When my youngest sisters were homeschooled there was a public school funded online option with remote teachers.

Lane Brettschneider

I would love to see some complexity/variety in Paras' school obligations, for example: - Don't have homework every single day, and/or... - Have different types of homework or different studying options for different subjects. Maybe my Para LOVES math and gets her math homework done every day, but struggles with history so neglects that work. She might have a great math grade and a low history grade, and that would impact her later schooling (if there's university) and certainly her career prospects. - Maybe one of her school assignments is to go to the local museum and take notes, or interview a family member about their life :) I really like the depth of storytelling that options like this can provide, more than just "Read a book and get an A." ALSO welcome Camille!! As a project manager myself, I'm so excited that you've joined the team, and I respect and appreciate your abilities! <3

Anonymous

Would really like to see different types of schools and the financial aspects that come along with them. So you have your typical free public school, but also private school, Fine Arts school, Athletic centred school, military school, etc. And some of these schools require certain skill levels and auditions to get in (Art school=music/art skills, private school=high grades). And I feel like the financial aspects of having to pay for the more private schools would make things really rewarding. It would be a goal that is a challenge to work towards and save up for with so many story possibilities. Another small thing could be the option to have uniforms or not. I know private schools have them but public schools in a lot of the world have them too, and it would be cool to have some uniform options you could customize and then have an option to turn on if you want uniforms.

Elizabeth Gonzales

I think learning some trade skills or specializing would be awesome too. Like carpentry, mechanic, home builder or something like a home designer/architect or interior designer, and definitely musician careers, but different types of musicians. I had a dream about different music halls a musician could book, and the higher the skill, the better the music hall they could perform in. 😊 I also hope you have different careers for different artists, like the artist, the sculptor and the animator!

Anonymous

Welcome Camille! I think at some point after the game's initial release all the things in the poll would be cool. I'd like to see a variety in afterschool activities and also electives that could expand a para's interest. Making friends is essential to me. It would be cool to have the option to take notes/fall asleep in class or even pass notes. I wouldn't mind seeing public schools and private schools, schools that require uniforms and those that don't. I also would like to see different types of homework and not the same homework for each day/class. Maybe writing a paper for english, having a presentation for history, a science project, a math test, and practicing for a band concert, which they're all due by the end of the week. It's nice to have different grades for different subjects, which eventually could lead to a major/minor in university (if that is part of the game one day)

Special education

Anonymous

Vocational training so parafolk can focus on a specific skill

Anonymous

It would be great to be able to join clubs/certain scheduled activities like yoga classes beyond the school (young adults+), too

Anonymous

I'd love to see special ed, tutoring, school clubs (eg robotics or theater), in-school socio- political organizations (like lgbtq+ supports or youth advocate groups). If post-secondary: differentiate degrees, certificates, diplomas, vocational training, and trades programs. Take one class at a time or full program. Also clubs and organizational affiliates. Options for how to pay for different stuff: scholarships, loans, work through school etc.

Calista

WELCOME CAMILLE!

Wondrous_Mickey

There could be personal school journal for each kid in which you could see school related informations - grades, subjects, classmates, teachers and other aspects. It would be great to have different subjects and kids could have favourite one or there could be subject that is more harder.

Anonymous

Welcome Camille 💕

Anonymous

All of this 😄 Et peut-être aussi plusieurs options d’écoles (public, payantes, internat, etc)

Anonymous

I really really like the idea of SAT style testing for high school parafolks. The traits and study habits combined would help determine the score, maybe optional events like “study night” or something. It would be nice to have some way to distinguish people and not have everyone be a cookie cutter blank with the same opportunities.

Anonymous

Welcome Camille 🙂

kesionna

Welcome Camille, I just want to make sure there is an honors system in place for all grades, plus even babies to toddlers should be in school as well or have the option of it. In school for toddlers, they should be able to learn the basic needs as well as the art of coloring, drawing, a little bit of math, therefore maybe level 1 or 2 logic, to help them learn the skill faster when they get into child stage. That was an example btw.

Anonymous

I would want certain careers to only be available through higher education and different types of higher educations, like trade school, 2 year college, 4 year college, etc. Also needing to meet requirements to get accepted into those. Being able to build our own schools would be sick. Public schools and private schools would be cool. School events like homecoming and prom and graduations plus spring, summer, and winter breaks. Idk how long the lifespan will be so idk how breaks would work. Being able to join as many clubs and activities as you want and then actually having an impact on your interests and skills. Being able to choose how you get to school like if you want to go to a bus stop and take the bus or get driven there by a friend or parent or walk if its close enough.

Anonymous

I feel like nursery elementary school middle school and high school would be good and it let's toddlers maybe be taught skills aswell 🙂

Anonymous

Some kind of tests or SAT would be really cool. It would add a nice challenge that is a bit more long term compared to homework, something for kids/teens/young adults to work towards.

Anonymous

As a graduate of a technical/vocational high school, it would be really cool to have that! Paras could pick a career path or trade and then go on to work in that career after graduation

Anonymous

^ Yes standardized tests is a good idea! Also different types of schools like public, private, boarding school, etc that cost different amounts (public school free, the others not), with benefits to going to more expensive schools like easier time landing jobs or getting into university if that's a thing. It could also affect the type of people you meet and what traits you develop, perhaps paras that go to expensive schools are likely to develop a "snooty" or "pretentious" personality trait, to add some balance so it's not a perfect expirence to go to an expensive school.

Wondrous_Mickey

Yes please. I do believe it would be great. Paras who studied vocational school could get bonus in their career - maybe higher salary or better position.

Anonymous

It would also be nice if paras had actual teachers and not just vague classes, like you could call your teacher and ask them for help on your homework, and there could be parent-teacher night where parents hear how their children are doing in school and react negatively or positively based on the results and their personalities. (For example, a strict para would react more strongly to a poor grade than a kind and relaxed para) also a detention system where if your grades get too low or you get caught slacking off you have to stay longer at school Is paraents anything. Like parents but. Para

I think Paras should be able to drop out of school at any time. For some its a big decision that has a decent impact on life.

OH and built in custom jobs that you can name and describe and maybe pick from a preset of payment for the job. So it'd be like a rename of whatever else job so fpr story telling you could have any job!

Sharmaine Arguilles

I would love to see different schools and uniforms! As for extra curricular maybe school competitions? In sports or talents, maybe some school performance or play, clubs (drama, ballet etc.), Earn awards that could affect your hobbies later in adulthood. Also for future dlc or update maybe if you're a teacher you can work at the school too and grow relationship with students and colleagues

If there will be disabled paras, deaf and blind schools! Private boarding school, and the option to send your child/teen to a private day school, so you can still interact with them. Performing arts schools, where your kids arts skills can increase as they learn!

moonlightsimmer

Definitely different school subjects such as Math, History, English, Science and different progression on them. This would also impact what paras choose to pursue in the future.

Anonymous

I love the idea of having to apply and interview for a job and having different types/fields of education impacting what you can and can't qualify for. Like in Sims it's so easy to just click and be like "hey i'm a doctor now"straight outta high school. But some careers should almost be greyed out if you aren't qualified, or need to seek further schooling before you can apply etc. i can't wait to see what you decide <3

Anonymous

Would be cool to have different tiered schools- like a private school and a public school, each one could come with its own advantages and disadvantages for your child

Anonymous

It would be great to have some careers that require a degree, some where a degree is preferred, and then some where you don't need a degree, but if you have one it helps you get ahead quicker. For example, to be a lawyer, you needed to have studied law, but to get into tech you don't need a degree, but maybe if you have one you start off at a higher salary or a slightly higher position? I also really like the idea of a Para having a favorite school subject, based on their personality and lifestyle. Or if they really don't like school! Maybe the game could generate one based on those factors, but then we have the ability to change/remove it?

alexmasse

It's still to be determined if there will be universities and colleges at launch but we aim to have them eventually!

hjs_wells

I think Para-parents should be given the choice whether to enroll their Para-children into public school, private school, or homeschool instead of an automatic choice defaulting to public school. I think a dialog box should be triggered to offer the choice when the children start going to school.

Gill Reid

I would love it if a para decided to skive off school for the day they'd get into trouble and have to do detention or extra homework.

Anonymous

In that case, I’d love to see someone check up on people who homeschool and homeschooling as a whole not necessarily being easy to get permission to do (thinking of the experiences of players in different countries)

Anonymous

The chance to graduate early or late, like AP classes and being held back. Also, school sports please!!!

Madi Crouch

It's been said but I'd love to have uniforms. They could be different for each school, if there were multiple schools (which I think would be fun). I'd like to be able to create schools and customise the uniforms!

Anonymous

I would love if we had the ability to like actually do assignments like math solve equations and write essays but just for a select number of assignments

Jobs: I LOVE Paras having to apply to and qualify for jobs. I also love the branching design idea, and WOOT "Having multiple workplaces for the same type of job" <- that's a suggestion I made! :D :D :D :D Happy. Education: Love the idea of it impacting jobs, and really like the extracurriculars idea. It would be amazing for Paras to be able to connect with others with similar interests in after-school clubs. Education gameplay has never felt super exciting to me -- more like a grind to get skills in the least engaging way possible (especially when you can get those same skills by doing things related to them). For kids and teens, doing homework is normal but a grind. Ultimately, I'd like to see these schools as a physical space you can follow your Para, though I know that's not possible at launch. Gameplay at school would give so much more richness to the life of a teen or kid Para, where they have to choose which kids to befriend, try to avoid bullies, maybe even try to develop a reputation. Examples of reputations: geek kids could geek out with friends, popular kids could set up a "cool kids" table, bullies could push other kids around, nobodies would stay under the bullies' radars, class clowns could improve everyone's mood, nerds would get a grade boost, rebels would get detention more often but also a boost when interacting with other students, jocks would get a physical fitness boost, and so on. And kids who have a similar rep would be more likely to approach each other. I'd definitely want the school gameplay to be focused more on the social aspect than the learning aspect, because watching a game character lean over a book on fast-forward is pretty boring. On the other hand, for *higher* education to matter to my gameplay, I'd want it to unlock things we can't get otherwise. Getting the highest level elite recipes from culinary school, for example. It should be things that the average household doesn't get to have. Like, yes, real people can learn complicated stuff by working really hard and studying on their own, but I want a real incentive to go through education opportunities *other* than leveling up skills. I want stuff you can't get any other way. Not necessarily stuff that will make the game harder without, but stuff that I *want* to have. Make my cooking Para feel like a king/queen when they serve the coolest food in town to impress their friends. Let my law student para draw people into passionate debates because he's unlocked that ability. Let my political science para start a new political party with custom parameters. Let business paras start their own businesses from scratch. Things that give the game more depth -- wanted things that aren't needed but are just plain cool.

Private and boarding schools would be really fun!

Being able to choose different subjects for high school students, and how those subjects may effect job prospects or University entry. Like a job or uni degree in science will require a certain grade obtained in different science classes in high school. Eg, a doctor or vet may need an A in biology, a kid who wants to be a teacher needs to do well in humanities subjects, aspiring actors can pick different drama classes, etc.

Brandie Haynes

I would really like if there were a military private school and like maybe if your para does good they can go straight from there to the military. Even if it’s a rabbit hole there could still be options like do push-ups or March.

Codi

I have a list of differing child and teen activities. It’s going to be long, forgive me. I love the idea of being able to have your Para teens create a band!

Maybe students could keep a diary as a game log of past events and what they thought about those events. It could create some interesting narratives.

Michael

A hidden lifetime “success” variable for each Para that increases in value based on achieving good grades, doing extracurriculars, etc. high success value would mean better job performance or other buffs later in life

Anonymous

I’d love if Paralives addressed how far behind our school systems are, by schools being more about learning new skills, being introduced to different types of jobs, projects, trips, and in general just being a lot more interactive than just (what we in Denmark call) “blackboard teaching”

Anonymous

I also tend to draw in my diary... so, it would be nice if random sketches and doodles could be littered throughout the text, and have those images evolve over time as your Para develops.

Fran Smith

Most countries, I think, have a form of University education (doctors, lawyers, teachers, accountants, computer engineers etc) and vocational education (hairdressers, cooks, mechanics, builders, office roles etc), and of course the untrained jobs - shop assistants, car park attendants, road workers, sales people, factory workers, transport drivers, etc. So perhaps working with these three tiers would work well - University education requiring a certain level of school achievement, College/Vocational - School achievement not necessary but similar to University in terms of some post-school attendance (I'm thinking perhaps night-school rather than full time). And base entry jobs requiring no training - just apply and walk in. And perhaps promotion can depend upon education level, so that promotion is simply not offered if the education level is not there. And of course, there is a fourth job category - authors, painters, athlete, actor, singer - for which pure high skill and talent dictate success - perhaps those professions can be only based on skill, outside academic achievement? I think, though, that there should be some variety of jobs, so that those without a University education can have some progression in some areas, but not unrealistically into areas that usually require higher education. Eg, you need University education to become a doctor. You do need some vocational education to become a hairdresser although levels are not important, and anyone can become a shop assistant, although there should be some promotion available for that - eg floor cleaner -> shelf stacker -> cash register operator -> stock controller -> customer support, however store supervisor might require some vocational education, and Store Manager and CEO would definitely require University education.

Macanon Snow

Welcome to the team Camille! Thank for joining the community and hope enjoy your new job as much as the others ^^

Anonymous

Then for example one of these new skills may spark an interest for the child/teen - things like IT, plumbing, gardening, farming, electricity etc. etc. At least in Denmark we have way too many highly educated people, who would’ve been way happier starting out with a lower education - but because school (and society) is pushing for the higher educations, they don’t know that it’s an option before they’ve already wasted years of their lives. I think it would be awesome if the children are able to learn if they want to persue a more “hands on” or more academic education early on.

Serasmiu

Welcome Camille! I loved reading your introduction; it was enjoyable. As for the Education: can we get study groups and group projects with true recognition of who does what? Or even sometimes credit the slacker, depending on the relationship with the teacher. A slacker student who's a teacher's pet to all his/her teachers would maintain a B average, but an honor student who's teacher(s) deeply dislike should have a lower grade.

Fran Smith

Yes, I'd like to see this type of system, too. I think many countries are similar. In Australia, maths, basic science and English are compulsory, and the rest of the subjects are choice. I'd love to see those the Para getting to choose subjects, even though school is a rabbit hole to begin with. And I'd like to see those choices impact on the students' skill gains. And I'd like to see personality and traits have an effect on how well students do, together with parent expectations and their relationships with the teacher on each subject, together with how much effort they put in (homework/class effort). These are the things that effect a child's grades in real life. I'm a teacher. :-)

Fran Smith

Yes. One thing that really sets Paralives apart is the options. I think most people here want to have schools similar to their own in their own countries. I also think it'd be great if Paralives provided options for us to do that. Options related to homework (how often/which subjects/which grades), subjects (compulsory/optional), uniforms (yes/no, perhaps we could choose from Paramaker?), after school options. How to get to school could be decided on a house to house basis.

Alice Taylor

Welcome Camille 😁 a suggestion: maybe there could be some research done into different school systems around the work and take aspects of each? Instead of modelling it just off the American system as games featuring schools tend to do. ✨ Keep doing your best ❤️ so excited to be supporting you and hope you are having a good day 😊

I think my big things would be boarding schools (that impact life track both negativity and positively (ie maybe the person hated it and actively works against it or they loved it and follow that path) and homeschooling / online school for k-12 AND college. School by mail could be cool too. Like the para gets a week's/month's worth of work in the mail and they have to finish and send it back before a certain date.

Amata

would love to see an increased variety of education / learning modalities. there's no reason a game we play to imagine a better life has to emulate some of the parts of reality that some of us are still struggling to "get right." options like - boarding schools that don't have hazing/bullying issues teens can choose art school / private school / religious school / sci-tech school 4-day school week remote school options more learning play / hands-on learning (especially for the younger kiddos) snow days vocational and trade schools as an equal option to university a modern revamp of apprenticeships / guided trade instruction instead of school paid -PAID- internships And here's my teeny tiny nerdcore suggestions for school clubs / extracurricular activities. . . sci-fi/fantasy club (UASF '00 represent!) computer science club / activities (UA C.A.V.E. Women where y'all at!?) and last, but not least, after-school table top role playing game club & board game clubs

Amata

as a teen, my after-school job was at the local comic book store where we also ran game sessions for various stuff - Pokemon, Vampire the Masquerade, D&D, Warhammer, etc would love to see a version of the local game store / comic book / anime&manga store we all used to go to after school just to hang out, get hyped for the next big thing, and use the space to play games (your store was the best if it had drinks and snacks and Pocky for sale too) (extra bonus if one of your friends worked there) ah, those were the days LOL

Anonymous

Lots of kids I went to highschool with also went to Tech schools during the day, it would be cool if teenage paras could go to a specialized school if they show a high aptitude as a kid. Like dance schools, art schools, carpentry, etc.

S&M Gonzalez

Congrats and welcome Camille! :)

One thing I think for school that’d be fun is It’d be nice to pick the classes and electives for our para students each semester to take that would fulfill the graduation requirements from a list by subject. For schools I hope that not all the extracurricular classes can only be joined during after school, but also be a part of their actual school class schedules. This might be too much but Our paras being able to know who’s in each of their classes, bc usually in sims you just have random npc become friends and you don’t actually get to select who these people are in the school, idk how this could work but maybe we could see all the faces of different paras in every class per semester (which would change), so we can then have our para student socialize with them. Being able to make and even join cliques, rather than pick from the normal jock, nerd, prep which I feel is limiting. We could maybe choose traits and interests that would belong to each group made, and some groups have the potential of being more popular in school than others whether it’s a good or bad group that likes to tag the school walls both can be popular. Being able to be a peer tutor to other students or get tutoring if our paras aren’t doing well in school. Teachers can even sometimes suggest the tutor if they don’t fix the grades themselves. I’d like if parents were more involved in their child’s education like from helping with homework,to asking how school is going, encouraging them to join clubs, asking how their grades are. Some parents caring if their children get good/ bad grades while others don’t care at all what their children grades are.

S&M Gonzalez

This is continues from above because I wasn’t able to post it as a whole: I think it’d be really cool if there were teachers with different reputations that would be assigned to our paras classes. For example so you’d have the very strict teacher, the fun teacher, the teacher who gives lots of homework or not, the cool teacher, etc. And their reputation would be spread amongst paras students depending on the school and the classes they take. So whenever you pick classes for your paras the teacher of those classes would be beside the name. I know it wouldn’t add much to gameplay but it’d be cool to have paras complain, compliment, praise, and even gossip about these teachers amongst themselves if they talk about school etc. Students being required to take exams to get into college/uni would be cool. Also maybe even interviews for students to go to certain schools in general. Parent teacher conference night every so often where parents can sign up to get involved with the school events and also be notified if their students are doing well in school or not, this could even be an opportunity for drama, for those students who aren’t doing well in classes, their parents could pay the teachers off to change their grades 😈 For homework I think it’d be nice if there were different assignments to do like regular homework, write a term/research paper, make a project (paras would to make something), group projects/assignments. Being able to have many school options would be really nice like private school, military school, homeschool, public school, art schools, magnet schools. and schools that help paras learn work experience and also gain college credit, boarding school would be nice to have later too. Some schools require tuition to be paid like private school and boarding school and even specialized school centered around certain subjects. Being able to read an overview of certain schools and what skills the para could earn and what colleges it might help them get in to. Club ideas for school: Clubs and societies for academics A honors society (students who get As) Debate club Spelling bee club Science club History club Create your own Foreign languages/culture club (if there will be other languages for paras spoken of different cultures) College preparatory club (can only be grade 11 or 12) School newspaper club: where para can go buy the paper and random events would pop up in article form about things that are happening around the school. Maybe some perks for reading the school newspaper would be maybe students discount coupon for shops and restaurants, free school lunch if they read it x many times, etc.

Anonymous

I think that, as long as school is an actual location where you can at least check on the status of a Para's continuing day or visit? I'd be okay with actual school being a rabbithole. School can be as complicated or deep as the team wants, but the outputs should be social drama, preparation for Para's life of skills (maybe kids MAY learn by archetype or go general.), and extracurricular events. As well, while the team might be a bit weak on this, I'd like the option for delinquency or truancy. I want Paras to have every opportunity to become baddies.

Megan Santucci

If we have rabbithole university (🥺) please make it available for older/nontrad students instead of just "you go full time from 18-22" type thing. (I'm kind of starting over career-wise in my early 30s due to divorce so it's very much on my mind.)

Megan Santucci

I think we should definitely have some kind of end of high school comprehensive exam for the sake of the player and not just the Parateen. 😂 Like when they get their results it could display a graph of how well matched they are for different careers? And I as the player could look at that and say "Okay I guess little Hippolyta should go into X Y or Z career path."

Anonymous

I'd love options for schooling - public, private, boarding school, homeschool, remote school. I also love the idea of being able to build your schedule/choose electives. Do you take band or shop? yearbook or theater? choir or a foreign language? AP classes or no? Do you get into the school play or make the football team?

Anonymous

I would love to have pre-school and part time or full time kindergarten

Anonymous

As much as I like most of the ideas, I think they are very US-centered (I might be wrong! 🙂). I'd love to see that some solutions from different countries, different educational systems, are also implemented. For example, in my country during the whole school (let's say primary school) you attend different subject classes with the same group of student. So peers don't change with the each class you take, just teachers/subjects do. Each teacher has its own specialisation, i.e. history, geography, physics, chemistry, biology (there is no general "science"), xyz language, maths... (you don't have a one teacher assigned to teach only 3rd grade, they specialise in all 1-6, 8 grades or however many there are). Also, very popular are vocational high schools (and above). Plus so many other things that have been mentioned in the comments already👍

Mariana Castiglione

It would be cool to have like 5 different types of grades (idk like para-literature, math, para-history, sports and non-para language) so maybe even if your teen/child para is a genius, even if they have a 10+/A+ in every subject, they suck at sports 'cause they never workout. I honestly don't care that much for homework being part of the general grade. In high school I would never study a lot and still had the chance to get good grades (unlike uni).

Bethy Grace

I think that my main ideas around school would be best implemented in a whole Education-based expansion pack... I'd like to have the ability to build campuses - primary, secondary, military school / boarding school, University - and to play a Para in that completely seperate environment. I also think that the Sims 4 mod "go to school" was excellent - having the ability to follow the Para to school if you so choose, to interact with their classes, teachers, friends and homework, is a great idea. I like the idea of "school events", be them a bake sale, a disco or dance, a prom, graduation, a school play, a music showcase - things like that - that we can attend with our Paras. I think that base-game wise I'd like to see all of the options listed above, as well as a few opportunities for us to influence the way our Paras behave at school from afar (assuming schools will be rabbithole based at first) - telling them to try to make friends, to study hard, to slack off, things like that - and it could be fun to have those interactions auto-selected depending on what mood our Para is in when they go to school, as well as their personalities. Homework is a good idea, but I would like it if homework was variable, and could improve different skills, and that if the Para's dont do it they might not necessarily lose out on grades but on skills. They shouldn't have homework every day in primary school, and in high school maybe it could depend on their class load (Side note: being able to pick classes would be awesome!) - and the homework could vary. They could have maths homework some days to improve one set of skills, and a creative project another night to improve other skills. Maybe homework could be to practice a musical instrument, or read a book, or play a typing game. I would love the ability to home-school kids, and to send them to different types of schools - public, private, boarding - in base game if possible. Thanks for listening :D

Anonymous

I would love it if you can befriend classmates while at school without the player having to do this. There should be more importance in school relationships. I also would love it if you can choose costumes to wear on days like “dress as a book character day,” etc. Also, having school dances, excursions, camp, talent shows, school clubs and choosing details like what instrument you play in music class. Also to be able to set how the child or teenager approaches school -> teacher’s pet, class clown, bully, wimp, etc. because I think that will help shape the para to be unique depending on their character traits. Also have options to send children to private school (costs money) or public school (free) and perhaps choose different schools that level up certain skills faster (sport, academics, art, etc) and to be able to design uniforms I hope you like some of these ideas!

Anonymous

Welcome Camille!! I know the team needed someone like you! :)

As for my suggestions - how about bringing basic subjects? Like Maths, Literacy and three other to chose and every day has homework for a different subject? and paras' interests would align with those subjects so you could have a para good at one subject but not at others... then in high school these subjects would branch off even more and a specific subject would be required to study a related field in high school and these would be a requirement later on for a particular course in university? And a requirement for a specific career? At the same time I dont think that grades from middle and secondary school should have such an effect on career maybe unless para doesnt have a university degree.. because in real life i dont think grades from school matter that much how far a person can get in their career. More so, what kind of career they can get into.

Anonymous

So say in middle school every para needs Maths, Literacy, History, Science and one chosen subject that could either be one of the 4 or a completely different one.

Anonymous

Not really school related, but I think it would be cool to have an after school "daycare" of sorts (I'm not sure if there's an English word for it). But if the parents are working, young kids (until like 12 or so) could go there, hang out, do crafts, play outside, I guess sort of extracurricular activities but without the pressure of picking one thing, it's more like a place to hang out until your parents are done working.

Annemarie Leunissen

Gaining skills by doing homework. Particular subjects raising particular skills.

Annamaris

Warmly welcome to the team, Camille, and thank you for sharing about your background! I'm really glad you've successed in finding team members who have perspective for creating enjoyable life simulation games, for sure. We count on you! ': When it comes to the brainstorming, I agree with everything written above. Very promising ideas for education! I'd like to suggest just a few things inspired by That other game. First off, please don't create a social worker NPC who spawns to pick up the para children when grades are too low. Maybe they were given extra tasks in order to get passed, instead? Secondly, it would be nice to disable school and education for selected paras by cheats, for example. It would be quite little but very important detail for the players prefer historical gameplay. Thank you!

S&M Gonzalez

I love your idea on being able to build campuses I’d really like to do that as well hopefully it’s possible for us who like to build lol. But I also agree with your expansion idea I think education should definitely be expanded upon in an update! So there’s many different choices and experiences to play through.

Anonymous

I like this idea of different subjects a lot. It encourages the kids to build skills throughout their childhood so they have a head start to skills in their lives. And subjects that they have high or low grades in affect which colleges they can go to, scholarships, and their odds getting certain jobs. That being said, I would LOVE extracurricular activities that they do after school or on weekends or something (band, dance class, sports, scouts, etc) that they can use for opportunities to build different skills, develop hobbies, and make friends (or cliques mwahaha) Maybe there can be some kind of popularity system in the schools, too, based on your skills, how many friends you have, what kind of hijinks you get into, how much money you have, etc. And when you get to uni and none or few of your old friends are there, it’s like a fresh start. And the popularity game isn’t as important

Anonymous

I've seen other people suggest something along these lines so I want to voice my support for multiple school subjects. They could be general rather than too specific, things like Arts, Science, Languages, Mathematics, Humanities, and Sport. I would like to see a para's level of education affect their career options. So for example a para who has completed compulsory education (I don't want to say high school because many countries don't call them that) is unlikely to be hired for knowledge-based jobs unless they have acquired knowledge in their own time and/or they are very charismatic. This would tie in very nicely with continuing education gameplay, e.g. adult education classes and online courses. This way a para's career would still be influenced but not be destined by their success at school as a child. I would also be very happy to see vocational education given the value it deserves. Trades are important professions and do not necessarily need exceptional academic attainment. P.S. Welcome to the team, Camille!

Anonymous

If there are seasons in the game, PLEASE give the kids summer break. It’s such an important part of childhood. And I’d love for kids to be able to go to summer camp and stuff like that.

Anonymous

And dances! There can be a lot of build up as the Para runs around looking for a date, picks out what to wear, or decides they’d rather stay home and do something else with their friends and family.

Anonymous

I'd love to have night/weekend schools or online courses for adult Paras looking to change careers or just keep educating. There should be no limit when it comes to the age or number of courses they can complete throughout a lifetime

Anonymous

One thing I would maybe suggest would maybe be the addition of boarding schools. And maybe young paras would be able to send letters or call their family members from time to time to tell them what living away from home is like.

Aaron

Welcome Camille!! All these career points sound so fun! I love the idea of having hidden careers, but personally I would like to have a way of leading/pushing my para into a job like that instead of having to wait to be approached (I do like to have that aspect of control😅). Maybe in addition to being approached there could be certain hidden/secret locations in the world that you could go to in order to inquire about a hidden job? As for school, I absolutely love extracurricular activities like dance, (for children and teens), clubs like art or newspaper club, scouts, sports, etc. This is a small thing, but I would love the option to maybe send children and teens to school with a packed lunch or have them buy cafeteria food (if the household doesn’t have enough money and they don’t have a packed lunch, they could maybe just get a pop up or something saying that they either got free food from the caf or shared with a friend?). Also, I love the idea of having children and teens making friends at school and forming study groups, and I also think it could be interesting for them to make “school enemies” (for example, a really good student might have a rival who’s always at the top of the class with them, or any student could just have that one classmate they don’t get along with). I can’t wait for the brainstorming session to see what everyone else thinks about this!

Anonymous

I loved the private school option in Sims 2. So it would be nice if there was public and private school. For private school you could either pay fees or apply for a scholarship where you have the headmaster over and try to woo them(kinda like the sims 2). Teens could have a prom. School projects.

Mari R.

I would like the option to have private schools but that the kids would go and then come back home at the same day. I never liked the fact that if you put your kids in private school in the sims, you would have to spend the whole week without them. Where I live, private schools work just like regular schools where you go and then come back later the same day.

Felipe Garbagnati

Hi, I want to share my oppinion, I would love to have private and public/state schools, it would be great if the paras could go to speaciallized schools such as millitary schools, boarding schools. finally I think that having only girls or boys oriented schools would be great, because that way it can impact in the para's personality, if the para went at a only's girl schools, then she will be shy with boys, and the other way around with boys.

Joanna Hinds

Welcome to the team Camille! I have loads of ideas as it pertains to schooling. - After school instead of the para coming straight home, I would love for the para to appear outside of the building that the school rabbit hole is linked to. So the para would either autonomously go home or maybe go to a cafe, park etc. Maybe this could be something that happens on the high autonomy gameplay setting instead of no autonomy etc. -Being able to reward paras for good grades as a parent. Would be really cool if your para could give their baby para some money or a gift for getting good grades. -Getting a report card but instead of individual grades for each subject, there could be a message from the school informing the parents of what the para likes, is good at etc. For eg. “Maggie is currently an A student! Congrats! Her favorite subject is Science and her least favorite is Music.” So you can get a sense of your child paras personality developing on their own rather than you doing it or imagining it happening. - School districts, I would love if there was different school districts based on where the paras live, maybe one school is better at academics but the other school is better at the arts. So you could have that choice of deciding where you want to live based on the school you want your kid to go to. Also if there was a trade school option and a private school option that costs tuition. Hopefully there is a more posh neighborhood on the map and maybe if you live in that neighborhood you’re pressured by the town to send your kids to that private school? Maybe that private school could add lore? Also trade school, pretty self explanatory, learning actual skills like handiness, gardening, cooking and other hands on skills. Sorry for the long message, I hope you guys are doing well otherwise! Xx

In terms of careers, I would love to see job listings that aren't just for entry level positions. This could be part of the branching careers, where you work as a research scientist, for example, and then find a job online for becoming a professor at a local college within your field. Folks who are just starting out could also see those types of job listings when they search—I think it's fine to see irrelevant jobs mixed within appropriate ones, to help make players excited for the Paras they can play as in the future. In terms of education, I would like to see those random events occur when Parakids are eating lunch. Like having to choose who to sit with (which could influence friendships, interests, or personality traits—maybe they're brave for daring to sit with the popular kids, or maybe they meet their new best friend by sitting with the new person at school) or whether they should trade their lunch with someone else, or buy the school lunch that day. This could add some fun nuances to the gameplay that could make education feel more immersive while still being a rabbit hole.

I think it would be interesting if different high schools have different "tracks" like some do in real life. Perhaps you could get into these by having a "Career day" type thing that helps determine jobs your Para might be good at, and they'll have the option to go into a track that'll help prepare them for it. I'd also love school events like prom, talent shows, football games, etc. to help make school feel like an experience rather than something to grind through to get to a job.

Anonymous

Welcome to the team Callille, we are so lucky to have you helping everyone out! I am really excited about having multiple buildings for the same job because it could add an event where a rival company tries to recruit you and you can either join them or negotiate at your current company. With education, I really like the idea of any para learning skills both useful and useless, like gaining points in cooking and bartending while going to culinary school, even if you are on the track to be a chef. I also think it would be interesting to have general education as the base and if your para dropped out it could affect the chances of them getting hired or if they took a class in a certain skill and/or trade they would get a higher chance of being hired at a certain job.

Would be nice to have events, like graduation, field trips and detention

Prom :)

I don't know if this is possible but I personally think it would be cool when maybe the children would not have homework everyday? I hope this is understandable! In Germany, in primary and middle school, I did not get homework everyday. I'm really sorry, if someone already suggested it. In addition, I do not know how homework is handled in the US and in Canada.

Anonymous

Omg yes, I love the idea of having prom, sports, talent shows - maybe school plays, too? So the kids can get into acting and stuff.

nemo

Very interested in the "branching careers" concept

Welcome Camille! ☺️🎉. Thankyou for an interesting concept to the game too! I’m loving this 🙌🏻❤️

Hi! It would be great to see a record of past jobs and schooling qualifications somewhere (which could tie in with university later on if that is something you'll be making) so that perhaps they can apply for a higher level job than just starting at 0 each time and climbing the ladder. E.g. if a teen has a job as a barista and did well at school maybe they could start at a retail or office job higher up, or if they got an A in school and has lots of skills and did an online management course or a night course, they can apply for a managerial position. Also it would be awesome with the branching, they could move work places, e.g. if there was a doctor career there could be manager at the hospital! So someone who has been a manager at a shop for a while could move to the hospital, maybe they'd need to take a night course in medical jargon first for that to open up as an option.

Annamaris

I got too inspired by previous comments, so here we go again... It would be a game changing feature if it was possible to become a school dropout. Neglecting the school tasks, projects and homework, not attending the classes without a proper reason and not passing the exams would lead to the situation. The paras or parachildren's parents could have a chance to explain the situation and plea for the another change, getting extra time and tasks to complete to studies etc. If they ignored this too, the pupils/students would drop out the school/college/university completely. Dropping out would limit their possibilites to get work but it wouldn't be the end of the world. However, the dropouts could have a chance to continue their studies later in order to finish them, maybe in the different institution dedicated to this kind of studying. The second thought is heavily inspired by the many awesome comments posted here. If the house rules are confirmed feature, why wouldn't we have school rules, too? They might consists of the following on the list and were customised by the player. They were affected either "worldwide" or per a education institutiom/school building (if they are many educational institutions in the same neighbourhood): ▪holidays and breaks (in the case of ingame calender system). The player could choose the length and time for them. This kind of system might be a great way increase an inclusive representation. (Besides, it would be nice if the parastudents or parents would request extra breaks for their own vacations and important cultural celebrations.) EDIT: "a siesta (a long break during the day) policy", I completely forgot this. :D ▪customable school uniforms: whether they are they required or not. ▪subjects: which are necessary and voluntary, which are teached in the school and which not. Does a single teacher teach every subject, are there seprated subject teachers, or is the teaching system the combination of these both. ▪the extracurricular activities: what kind of activities the school offers and what not. ▪the type of the school: boarding, private or public school. If boarding, how much it costs and are the pupils/students required to board at the campus area. ▪events: if the school arranges cultural celebrations, festivals, proms or/and discos, and are the pupils required to participate in them. ▪the effect of the weather conditions: if the pupils/students get a a day off in the case of too high or low temperature, and what "the temperature limit" is in this case, and if the school gets canceled in the case of blizzard. This would be the another great way to increase inclusive representation because the policies in the different countries vary a lot. ▪food policy: if the school offers the free lunch, or whether the pupils/students are required to bring their own food or pay for the lunch. ▪transportation: if the school bus/taxi/car picks up the pupils or whether they are required to use other methods (like parents bringing them, walking, riding the bike, using the public transport etc.) Sorry for knowing just a basics of C#-coding but I might assume these kind of aspects are not too complicate to code. On the positive side, these rules could be done with the rabbit hole schools, too. If there is non-rabbithole school and education in Paralives, school trips and "learning outside the school building" may be a great addition in future. It would be very nice also to choose the didactic style then: is it dialogic conversations with the teacher like in academies in Ancient Greece, sitting at the school desk and making the tasks, finding information in Internet or something else. But yeah, dreaming of the education update/DLC with these and everything Bethy Grace mentioned...

TnT_Terry

Adding to my above post; 3) The option to work remotely from home, especially a mom and or dad with young children. Or even someone disabled and feels more comfortable to work from home. Adding to education, highschool PROM and graduation ceremonies.

Welcome Camille! 🙂 With all the new members, it’s getting harder and harder to keep track on who is who. Anyway, I think that school and education system should have a pretty big impact on Parafolks lives. I think it should be like in Sims 3 including Generations expansion but more challenging, like multiple amounts of homework in different subjects (endless amount of math homework ugh), the tests/exams making students tense, students with bad traits picking on others and teachers with bad traits being scary to students while teachers with good traits being supportive. Also, the idea of elite/private schools for more successful students and vocabulary schools for learning specific skills

Anonymous

Being able to choose from a selection of electives would be nice, students can have a chance of gaining different skills depending on which elective they are taking. Like a “science elective” could let students earn skills in gardening, handiness, logic. Im not sure how many skills will be in the game but its just a thought i had to give each student a bit more variety, and give them a boost toward different career paths

Anna Wendel

Welcome Camille!! Happy to have you on the team 😁 Loved your dramatic way of telling things haha!

NaJa Jackson

A mentor/mentee option would be interesting (like big brother/big sister/big sibling). This could be cool for alumnae of the program to then become a mentor for the next generation.

Anatasia

I absolutely agree with Annamaris's comment. In addition, from the US high school system, the class subjects could also be required to graduate or selective. For University, we have Government Aids and scholarships. Students have to buy books themselves, used or new. For some Asian countries like Vietnam, schooling pretty much self/family pay for everything (classes fee, activity fees, etc... seriously a lot of fees)

LightDeficient

I would really love a University rabbit hole at launch so that paras need a specific degree for certain jobs! And also the option to pick these things in the Paramaker as well! It breaks immersion for me when you just qualify for everything at the start, like why would you ever take the lower paying jobs then?

Anonymous

This is unrelated to this post because I just had a thought come to mind. About build mode, can you please in the build mode add options for choosing seasons as well as time of day that you choose to build? I'm sure someone would've mentioned this already but it is extremely difficult to build in certain seasons becuase the season (like if its snowing) will change the lighting and it can be extremely annoying and difficult to build in :) and choosing the season will allow you to see what how the build will look in each without necessarily changing the season in game. I hope that makes sense and thank you :)

Boarding school

Annamaris

Wow, thank you for these add-ons! Those required/selective subjects were new information to me, thanks for adding it! In my country, we have matriculation examination which is the standartised exam for everybody studying in the secondary school. The students can choose which subject exams they attempt to pass. The better result they get, the better chances they have to get in the Uni. Maybe the final exams could be choosable also? And yes, thanks, I completely forgot the other fees. ':

Annamaris

Just remembered the following: if the school requires something in order to start studying there. It can be well enough and/or better than others passed entrance exam, a previous degree, a motivation proven by a motivation letter, previous studies in an other institution and/or working experience. One alternative could also be the scenario in which everybody is able to start studies for the year but only those who success in the exams can actually continue them. EDIT: I also forgot the apprenticeship contract in which the student gets the licence/degree by working and attenting theory classes in the school. In the school rules context, it would mean what kind of subjects the school offers and what is actually required in order to get the licence/degree X. It would be something never-seen-before in lifesimulation games. It could also be done with rabbitholes but on the other hand, it might be better to focus on the other aspects of the education first.

Dizzardy

I was thinking it would be cool if we could create our own custom schools. (Like rabbit hole schools where we can change the rules on how they work)

My vote was for Homeschooling. My mom homeschools my younger siblings. I told my mom about Paralives a year or so ago, and she's pretty excited about it, and I'm sure she'd be even more excited if homeschooling was an option.

Welcome Camille! It’s so cool watching the team grow 🥰 There are so many cool ideas here! I was also hoping for some more social options to come out of school. Like kids and teens bring home a friend from school, get phone calls from school friends (possibly asking for homework advice or to study together), group assignments/projects, etc. Keep up the awesome work guys, I’m so excited to see where you go with this!

Anonymous

I would love for different types of schools that offer special social interactions and opportunities! I also think there could be both "regular" school and boarding schools where students live away from home but can come home on weekends and holidays. One: a fancy private school that costs money and (like the Sims 2) requires an evaluation interview with the headmaster/headmistress in order to be admitted. Students would have uniforms and may get a bonus for certain careers or applying to university. Personality-wise, private school could also be a perk for snobby paras and paras who want the best for their kids (like an ambitious parent aspiration). Two: Themed schools like military prep school that gives a boost for going into the military career and maybe have some kind of incentive for the kids of military parents to choose this school, monetary or pride in the family. Going to such a school, the kids may salute their parents and be able to "march" places as an alternative walkstyle. A performing arts school (i.e. music, drama, theatre, dance) for the aspiring actor and musicians where in addition to the normal subjects, they learn acting (both for film and theatre), musical instruments, and different dances such as ballet, tap, hip-hop, and ballroom. They can perform concerts and plays for parents and get a higher degree of success applying for a related performing arts university programme or even getting audition calls as teens or just entering adulthood to begin work right away. A sports academy for aspiring athletes in various sports that can actually be played in game (I would also love an Olympics equivalent where paras with a high enough skill level in a sport could get a call opportunity to compete and win medals). Great for bro and sporty personalities and could also have a higher chance for athletic scholarships for university. Some school similar to the School of Peace and Love in the Sims 3 that acts like a hippie eco school that could encourage skills and interests such as gardening, wellness and yoga. In the Sims 2, you could like couples counseling as a single level from a book that helped prevent your character from getting furious and calming down fights between themselves and others. It would be really cool to have a therapy kind of skill tree and for paras with that skill to be mediators that counter a para who's hot-headed. If a thing, it would work perfectly for this type of school. Paras here will flash the peace sign as a greeting sometimes or hug more often and do friendly socials. A visual and decorative arts school of the non-performing kind that encourages painting, drawing, sculpture, pottery, sewing/embroidery/knitting, photography and filmography (also known as fine arts and crafts). Students would be interested in not only art, but also art history and museum studies and archaeology when applying to universities programmes and careers. I'm not sure if applied arts would belong here or in the engineering/techie school. Applied arts include architecture, fashion and interior design. The last school would be science and technology with focus on the range of sciences from physical, biological, to maths and logic (as for social sciences, I think some could work for this school, but others more for the School of Peace from above). This includes maths, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, astronomy, as well as more specific ones that could be added or chosen however the team sees fit: botany, marine biology, zoology, ecology, paleontology, and more. On the technical side, interests would involve engineering and robotics, computer science and programming, graphic design (is my passion), game design, and all the specialists in film-making like special effects, sound and light tech. This is probably the most common kind of special secondary school that you might know in real life and media, one example is the school Miles is transferred to in "Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse". This school could grant scholarships, funding for independent research at the university level, and career boosts.

I would love my Paras to be able to go to school dances/ maybe fundraisers or other little after school activities of that nature, as well as having some skill-related extracurriculars to send them off to with their friends! :) Thank you guys for all of the hard work you're doing, and welcome Camille! ❤️

Anonymous

If possible, I would love to have lots of club activities like student council, photography club, drama club, that would give our paras extra traits and interactions that could later go toward their future careers. Also, since it's school, the ability to form cliques that share specific and unique traits like preps, skaters, geeks, jocks, etc. And a social system unique to just teens/kids because the way they socialize differs a lot from adults and (they can be so much more dramatic). Thank u.

Welcome Camille! 🥰 I really would like to see the options to have things like Proms and school fairs. It would be awesome to have child or teen paras making a display etc for a school fair and having that affect their grade? As with universities, it would be cool to have that affect career opportunities in future also! I was wondering also if maybe different types of learning can be selected for paras? For example, if a child is a visual learner they would excel a lot quicker at school work if they watched educational videos online. Or if a para learns a lot by making notes etc, they have the option to study over notes they’ve made in class? I think that would be cool and add a bit more depth to the paras? :)

Anonymous

Very long but I have too many ideas! Each of the special schools could have different ways of advertising to potential students throughout the para world, maybe on an educational TV channel or in a pamphlet from school as well as having different personalities from the parents and this kids giving them particular wishes for getting into a particular school and benefitting from it. In addition to an interview and application to the schools, each could ask for something special: the performing arts school could ask for an audition, the sports school for a tryout, the fine arts and crafts for an art submission. I also wouldn't mind if these kind of schools were only for secondary level, teens, or even as special universities. The fact that such special schools exist and can give benefits to paras in particular trades and careers as well as distinguishes them further from each other would be really interesting.

Anonymous

Super late but I would like the option of private and public school. Private school would need tuition. Maybe military school would be cool.

Anonymous

Prom, student government (class president), sports teams/band etc, school play. Options to cause mischief, prank the principle, cheat on a test, start a food fight, get detention, etc I think school gameplay is overlooked in other simulation games. It is such a HUGE part of life.

Anonymous

I really like the thought of maybe getting a pop up that a coworker has called in sick and they request your sims to cover their hours on your day off, to help earn some more money and to add an element of surprise

Kids/teens being able to go to "efterskole" (Danish, kind of like a leap year before high school, where kids go to a kind of boarding school. The schools are kind of themed, like one school has more focus on art and theatre, one has more focus on sports etc) Also, being able to choose between different schools, maybe varying in price, academic level, quality of education and what they offer in extracurricular activities

Anonymous

Welcome Camille!! ❤ Surviving high school was definitely possible mostly due to the clubs I was involved in. It was super fun to contribute to class council, feel school spirit at games through cheerleading, and be creative with playing an instrument. I hope my paras will be able to do the same :3

Teens dropping out option. Getting a GED later on

I live the idea of learning new skills at school... Giving your kid the possibility to do stuff you can't at home (we don't all have music instruments at home, or a gym, or art stuff), so it's cool that your kid could discover new interests at school, and friends in the same groups who share these same interests. And the kid then being able to join activities about these new interests. It's like everything goes together. Also it would give the parents some more time before the children get home, if you don't feel like always having to take care of all the household, and just focus on one character. To stay on the same path, after a while let's say a couple of years before the end of highschool, it'd be Nice if they could chose a specialization, before going to university. Like, art and literature, or maths and physics, or PE, you know? So it could already impact their future even if they only go up to highschool. And going to university would allow them to get better paid jobs or different jobs. And I like the fact that we could possibly study a little more if the kids have passion for what they study at school, in addition to homeworks.

Kyll

I like the idea of having public and private school. Private school having a better quality teaching and giving better opportunities in future jobs. Also, for the subjects at school, it'll be Nice if we had in primary schools like : PE (general PE), arts (general), grammar (charisma and faster understanding of the language and so a faster learning),... And different subjects in highschool and specializations. General : Literature, science, PE, History, etc.. So like general knowledge. And Specializations : maths, physics, biology, swimming, running, football, geology, history, literature, painting, music, different languages, etc... And university would be even more specialized and you would need to have studied some specializations in highschool prior to applying for uni : politics, sales (commerce), robotic, microbiology, medecine, law, literature, art, acting, film making, cooking, decorator, sports,...

Lucy McClean

Absolutely desperate for home education to be an option. As a home educator, especially. Where education is not just sitting at a computer or doing workbooks but can be a child para learning skills, joining groups, doing classes or courses etc. Like perhaps there can be a certain number of things to be done each week - read a book, make a project etc. I would love for there to be options to gain qualifications and specialisms and those leading directly or indirectly to jobs for example doing psychology could lead to being a therapist or it could help boost an application to be a police officer or social worker.

Ludivine

IdrilPuck

I'd love for there to be specialty schools with different skill/course branches, for example and music school where you can choose to learn different aspects like piano vs singing, and or conducting vs music reading. Maybe with the kids able to pick different electives, and getting extra skills depending on the track. This could be done with art schools, math and science schools, music, military schools, environmentally focused schools, theater schools, (maybe eventually magic shools...?)

Dizzardy

I think how it would work, is a player could create a custom school....attach it to a rabbit hole door and then when a student attends that specific school they travel to that rabbit hole door.

Anonymous

For Homeschooling, I think that a Tutor/Facilitator Teen/Adult job and/or career should be an option and complement. So Paras could get part time jobs as tutors as teens or older. But there'd also be like a Facilitator full time profession where Paras ran homeschooling programs with goaled days/events with advancement based on networking and "knowledge checks/goaled limited timed events" (you gotta know and trust/be trusted by people for them to want to involve you in communal homeschooling and there's gotta be something to measures y'all's kids successes)

Kyll

Keeping track of kind of a CV/resume, would be awesome too! You know, like, depending on your school, your grades, etc... But also depending on your past experiences and past jobs. Everything would write down somewhere, like a resume, and impact your job opportunities. And you would have to actually apply to jobs, and get interview (or not), and the employers could feel free to hire you or not. So the para would be stressed or excited, or confident and well prepared, all depending on their resume and their character. It would give more value to jobs depending on their difficulties. You know, like being astronaut would be something that requires a huge amount of different studies, and physical préparations and not everyone could do it. Or CEO, you would need to go up the hierarchy ladder OR to have years of experience in a similar branch (car sales, stocks, restaurants, hotels,...) to be able to apply for it. Compared to let's say, a garbage collector (don't get me wrong, i have a hug respect for these workers), but like, paras wouldn't need much studies or achievements to apply for these, BUT they would need certain traits to get hired or to manage to keep the job, like traits : brave, loves life, hard worker, loves outdoor, or if handicaps get implemanted in the game, how about people who can't smell?

Anonymous

Also, goaled school related events that result in "scholarships" instead of just household items.

Sara Coulter

I think that it would be a cool idea if paras were able to be tested to see if they have learning difficulties. Personally I am very intelligent with a high IQ but I also have dyslexia.

Anonymous

Haven't had the chance to read all the comments. Apologies if this is a repeat. It would be great if Paras' performance at school was influenced by their skills, personality traits, etc. Maybe students take multiple subjects or have their grade influenced by multiple factors, and the things the Para is naturally good at/has worked hard at make it easier to perform well in those areas, but the areas where the Para is not as strong require more work to get a good grade.

Little late to the party but, having Businesses!!! Especially now, a lot of people had to adapt to our "new normal" or they made their step to finally open up their own business. One of the things that I would love to see is being able to "be the boss" of the a restaurant, store OR actually being a working member in a place of employment and actually work. Certain life simulation games *cough sims cough* their idea of owning a restaurant would make even Chef Ramsay irritable. I'd also love to see like an Entrepreneur trait or even as a "career" for the independent Paras! :) SO looking forward to seeing the next development in this game! Congrats to the new member of the team!

Holly Kinglund

Being a student who works at home from a young age, I find homeschooling to be an amazing option!

Holly Kinglund

Welcome Camille! I'm sure you will do a great job! Regarding brainstorming on schools, I took point by point the questions discussed just below :) I'm sorry if everything is not very clear, I tried to express myself well but I translated my comment into English with Google translation :( -What kind of schools should there be in Paralives? Non-formal schools would open up a wider range of options! For example it would allow to have the choice of his school subjects which could lead to certain aspirations for the adult life different between each ParaFolk in relation to his childhood and his schooling, or a greater number of extra-curricular activities and that would be very interesting especially if we do not follow the ParaFolk at school ---- -What will be the impact of education on the life of a para and his future? As I said above, it all depends on the choice of materials (if my idea is accepted). If a ParaFolk spent more time studying science than literature at school, finding a job in science should be easier if it was assumed that there would be job interviews. --- -What activities and skills should Paras be able to do and learn in school? Normal school subjects (ParaFolk language, mathematics etc.) and less formal things like drawing, music or video editing! :) --- -Which of the following important education-related gameplay features would you like to see in Paralives? School at home! You could build into the game a homeschool system inspired by the Clonlara distance school: a number of hours to study a subject (e.g. math), and anything related to that subject would do. advance a goal of working hours. Watch a documentary or read a math magazine for example. And when all the goals are met, the Parafolk would validate their year :)

I don't know if someone's already mentioned this, but it would be cool if eventually there were trade schools or apprenticeships your para could get instead of a degree to get into a career. Or maybe even just people with a certain mastery of a skill being able to teach others.

Anonymous

I love the idea of being able to get tutoring from another student/professor and being able to tutor others for a little bit of money! And it was really cool in sims 3 when the kids could go on field trips and prom and stuff like that.

Anonymous

I believe this was mentioned already but the option for public or private schools would be great. Sometimes I like to play as ritzy pompous sims and sending the kids to a private school so fits in with the story. Also the option for teens to drop out would be cool.

BooDotBoo .

Very late to this, but I’d love to see home schooling of some sort. Whether a para parent/family member teaches or they do online school, where a child para would ‘go to school’ for a few hours out of their day each day. I definitely hope we have homework and, maybe different types. Maybe your child para can bring home a “project” to do once a week and someone has to help them with it. It could be an art project or a science project or a book report. Some type of variety would be nice, not just bringing home a notebook (or whatever item would be used) and doing their homework at a desk every school day. I’d love to see summer vacation and even para holidays. I’m not sure if/how seasons would work, but maybe young paras would have the entire summer season off or just a few days out of the season. Summer school might also be nice, for para who didn’t do well or who want extra credit. Teacher/professor para should also have that same time off, as well. Wouldn’t make sense for the young paras to not be in school, but the teachers are.

Love the idea of not need a job and just getting by on gigs and luck, seems like it could lead to some dope starving artist gameplay. I like the idea of education affecting career options, but to go further, I think it's be dope to be able to drop out of high school if your para has other interests/opportunities. Or even if there was an option for like trade schools or something other than traditional higher education

Because I'm not good at English, I use machine translation As for school, this is also one aspect that reflects the authenticity of the game. I have many ideas that can increase the authenticity of the game ·When children go to school, they can choose to be picked up by their parents, ride their own bikes, or take the school bus to their home ·After school, parents can choose to ask their children how they are at school (especially through random events) ·Teachers visit at home / parents are called to school when their grades are abnormal ·Wealthy families will ask knowledgeable tutors to give extra guidance to their children, such as piano, foreign language, ballroom dancing, and even etiquette ·Winter vacation and summer vacation!!!!!!!! c'mon!!!! ·The school organizes children's travel, and the children will hope their parents to prepare travel Bento the day before ·I hope the school is not a rabbit hole, at least we can see the modeling of the building complex ·I know it's troublesome, but can we consider learning a foreign language? If people all over the world speak the same language, I don't think it's simulated enough. If you can make the world have at least two languages, and you want to communicate with another group of people, you have to learn their language first, that's very interesting!

I like the idea of having adult education. Whilst school impacting careers is good, it would be good to have the option later in life. Like night classes or online learning to get a course/skill/degree. 💚

Something that I did not see listed (but may be in the comments that I did not see), could be clubs or committees! Band, theater, math club, competitions, etc. Though, I suppose those could fall under extracurricular, but could also be things like yearbook club, hall monitor, etc that can be added to education bonuses. For adults, I do love a few of the suggestions about night school, trade school, apprenticeships kind of things. I really like the ideas that someone above mentioned, about the kid being able to ride their bike to school, or other forms of transportation, summer/winter breaks. Perhaps even the ability to pack their lunches or get school lunch. It sounds mundane, perhaps, but the details of realism are just such nice touches. I am SO stinkin' excited to see what you guys come up with.

I think it woul dbe cool to have plumbers, construction workers, uber drivers, etc. Real Essential workers. Also I think it would be cool for savings/checkings accounts as well as piggy banks.

I love the idea of having trades be included in gameplay!

I'd love different types of schools such as private/public/homeshool and also choose the uniform if any for schools would be cool as it'd make it feel more real as I'm from the UK and we have school uniforms

Different types of schools! Public, private, boys, girls, arts, science etc. It would be cool if there could be ‘worse’ schools where grades/skills could increase slower than private or ‘better’ schools. Also uniforms!! Pls make it an option!!

It would be great to be able to follow the paras to school and choose which skills we want them to improve and who to befriend. Also it would be great to have clubs to improve even more skills and make friends with the same interests.

I really want multiple schools and majority of them not having homework... I don't think homework makes sense. I'm done with school, I wanna chill now

I would love for school not to be only rabbithole, but an opportunity to bring your para to school: Attend classes, study, do course-related work, build skills, socialize between classes, see your friends, walk past your crush in the hallway, save the schools geek from stupid bullies, talk to teachers, goof around, get expelled, eat together in the cantine/cafeteria, etc... Stuff like that. Would be awesome!

Some people mentioned not wanting homework, and I think I understand where they're /coming/ from. But I believe cutting it out all together isn't the best route, for us the PLAYER the homework should be fun. In...ahem..."other" games homework is just an hour or two of your character writing in a note pad. This is okay sometimes but that's literally all it is and I can understand how that could be boring. Who wants to relive that? Instead, perhaps sometimes Parafolk could get various projects to do, I saw in a post you guys mentioned maybe a Para has to go to a museum to write a report, etc.. I think that's a great idea! Shifting the gameplay around every so often, giving the Parastudents different activities to do for homework sounds like a great way to change up the monotony.

I like the idea of different types of homework. Along the same vein, I think different reactions to doing homework should be a thing, as well. For example, if a student is doing homework as a worksheet or in a book, maybe they get stuck and can't finish it unless they ask for help or look back at class notes (their success on help can be based on other factors too!). Another example, maybe a student needs more materials for a project, and they need to ask their parent/guardian to get more supplies. Even more realistic, they suddenly remember they have homework late at night and they need to have an all-nighter to finish or find other means.

Being able to have a study-group, invite them over, order a pizza: someone sits on the floor, someone in the bed and by the desk. They will socialize and study or do spesific study-tasks together (example: drawing, writing an essay, co-operate on a project, practice a short speech, etc).

What if homework was not a specific activity but rather a task or collection of tasks to do that can be different every day? One day/week your Para child may have to do a science experiment in the kitchen, another they may have to read a book and write a book report. Larger assignments could be given on Monday, due on Friday.

just thinking with the spy for example those who want to be spy’s are the least qualified to be them so yeah it being hidden would be cool. Like they only recruit so you could catch their interest with impressive grades or light criminal activity or being an impressive hacker etc you don’t entirely know what they’re looking for abs showing an active interest in being hired is a red flag. Even like if you’ve had anti social behaviour could mean they’ll not even look at you

i think para students should learn certain habits, all habits have two sides to them. example, hard-worker makes a para life who easily adjusts to jobs and succeeds in them but also has a hard time connecting with others
