Get those eyebrows on fleek. Eyebrows help us express ourselves wordlessly, and having a clean, sharp look is essential. The easiest way to get a nice even set of eyebrows is to visit a professional. In this post I will guide you through what to expect from a professional eyebrow service and how to shape them at home!

Going the professional route means you can either get a wax or get them threaded. We went over waxing in Getting Started with Skin Care: Part II, and getting your eyebrows waxed is no different other than the strips being smaller. So what’s threading? Your stylist will have a piece of string that they loop around their fingers and twist in the middle. They put the twisted string where they want to remove the hair and pull the string taut, removing the hair by getting caught in the twists, sort of like the epilator machine but a lot more precise. Getting your eyebrows threaded is a fast and fairly inexpensive way to have your brows shaped to perfection. In between sessions you can use a sharp tweezer to clean up and pluck any stray hairs.

If you’re more of a Do-It-Yourself person like I am, shaping your eyebrows can be difficult if you aren’t sure where to pluck. The best time to pluck your eyebrows is right after a shower, it hurts less because your pores are nice and open, you can also hold some ice up to your eyebrows to numb the skin a bit if you are sensitive to pain. You need a good pair of sharp, angled tweezers (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZG5VVXS/) before you try to shape your eyebrows yourself.

This (https://www.thetrendspotter.net/how-to-shape-eyebrows/) is a great article that explains exactly how to shape them and provides good diagrams! 'Scaping your brows can be a big step towards having a much more feminine look, but I know some of you may not be quite ready for that yet and still need your boy brows, so this next tip comes straight out of the drag queen handbook! Use a glue stick, yes a glue stick from the craft aisle, to glue down your brows. It’s especially easy if you use the purple glue that dries clear so you know when you are ready for your next layer. There are some great step-by-step tutorials online that really deep dive into this process. You can either apply it directly to your eyebrow hairs, or you can use a makeup applicator. A plastic utensil handle works if you’re really in a pinch and want a more precision look. The key to this is to do a thick layer at first, really gluing down the hairs and waiting for it to completely dry, then layering more glue on top to make it stick and blend in with your skin. After you have your brows sufficiently glued down, you will need to cover the brows completely with concealer and foundation, essentially erasing your original eyebrows. With the blank canvas, you can now draw in a beautiful perfect pair of eyebrows either in a natural color, or you can go wild and paint them on to match your outfit!
