OMG. I've seen this movie dozens of times, and I can't believe I only just thought of this now. So, remember how when the Bomber (Howard Payne, Dennis Hopper's character) appeared to blow himself up near the beginning after the whole elevator thing? You mentioned how if he blew up, there would be blood or body parts everywhere, right? Okay, so, do you know how I think that worked? On the tv later, the one guy said, "the only life taken by the bomber was his own." Like you repeated. Except, remember, before the elevator thing, Howard Payne killed the security guy. He had a knife (that you thought was a gun) and he stabbed him in the head. On TV later, if the cops thought that the bomber's life was the only one taken, they didn't know about the security guy. I think, Payne must have planned to make it look like he blew himself up and fake his death from the start, BECAUSE, Payne took the body to the underground parking garage where the bomb he was wearing went off. He made the body look like it was his own. He used the body to make it look like he himself was dead. Otherwise, the cops would have found the security guy's body and the guy on TV would have mentioned him or worded it differently. It's not a perfect theory, but I've seen killers do that no only on TV, but I've heard of it happening for real. I can't believe I never thought of that before.

Woah that is a super cool theory and would make sense why they thought he was dead!!! Now I wanna watch the movie again so I can see this play out!
