On this edition of Backstage Pass, I'll be talking about…

Designing Marowak Dojo! Gotta put some thought into where I spend like 70% of my gameplay for OBT lmao

So Marowak Dojo is a pretty prominent recurring location for OBT, maybe even more prominent than the guild! And since the layout in the game leaves something to be desired, I have to take the reigns and design a lot of the location to suit my needs.

So to start, I made a layout plan with what I wanted. Not all of these rooms may actually show up in the comic, but I liked having them in mind for hallway layouts and the like.

Then, I designed the front room, since it was the first location to appear. I also included character heights so I had an idea of how big everyone is in the environment (which I probably ignored a lot anyway later, but hey, it’s good to have a starting point).

Then, I designed the orphanage children! Most of them don’t really have any bearing on the story, but I like having little sketch references of them so I can pick and choose how I wanna fill the background space.

And you may see the tiny Silvally here and go “what the hell is going on there” and that! Is something I wanna address in a Trivia Tuesday, and it’ll probably end up being a little flavor thing in the comic at some point lmao. Just a worldbuilding thing, move along

And from there, I made the pre-rendered backgrounds for the dojo because I hate redrawing interiors! I gotta say though, I am excited to show off the environmental training room. Maybe someday.
