I'm pretty sure in the dub Jacob is just anime Jason Statham with eye liner.

I get that Fairytail is meant to be a comedy action, but Jacob came off as badass, just to get handed a stupid irrelevant gag for the sake of some raunchy jokes. On the other hand Shelia took one for the team. She is no longer a Sky Godslayer, but she defeated Dimaria. As much as it would sting more if Wendy lost her magic, it makes more sense for Shelia to do it since they were fighting someone with "God" magic and she was a God slayer. I also love how they tie Ultear back into the story briefly. I was all "wtf" at first, but as she explained how she could use Dimaria's own magic against her, it made sense. With Dimaria defeated, that means 5 of the 12 are dealt with.
