Who had the best character development this arc?

literallywho

Did the pacing issues become really noticeable? And also what did you think of Enel as the unstoppable villain of Skypiea?

Tyler Davis

At this point in the story, do you believe that Luffy is a little too overpowered? I remember when reading this week to week my friends and I would discuss this because some of them thought the story was getting stale because Luffy didn’t really have too much of a challenge up to this point like other manga protagonists may have had. I wanted to see how a first time watcher felt about that. Bonus: what has better filler, One Piece or Naruto? P.S. I enjoy both of your theories and insight very much, it makes me look at a story I’ve read 100 times through a new lens.

Ben Swaggerty

Y’all mentioned some expectations for the story moving at the end of Alabasta. Do you feel that any of those expectations have been addressed or satisfied during the Skypiea saga? What are some of your new expectations moving forward? Or things you hope to see in the near future?

Ben Swaggerty

Have any of lore drops or world building in this saga changed your opinion on the One Piece, or do you still think it’s “the friends we made along the way” lol

Lūthér Hölâyèãhmé

What do you think of the logia type devil fruits now that you have seen your 4th one?

Robert

How do you think the live action will handle Skypiea and Oda’s tendency to not kill characters? Wasn’t sure how the arc can maintain its identity as having a “survival game” or “all fearing god” without having characters die, but can’t imagine every non-Straw hat character who participated ending up dying at the end either, there’d be too few characters left at the end. Then it’s a question on how do you choose who dies or who survives and how do they survive if say some get shocked and die but others survive?

Extra Crispy

You’ve talked a lot about breaking the pattern of the show as Robin joined the straw hats instead of Vivi and I would say going to Skypiea did that even more effectively. My question is where do you think the story is going next? In terms of geography and just the story in general. Do you think we’re heading towards a more adventurous new world style feel like Skypiea? Or a return to form with something like alabasta a more grounded battle against a large enemy organization with political implications. Or maybe we’re going to see a whole new kind of adventure completely different from what we’ve gotten from the show so far. I’d like to know what you thinks next and also what you would prefer to see from one piece in the coming arc. Anything from world building to character moments to tone or even some characters you think/hope will make a return soon.

Whoopsie

How are you liking the Devil Fruit system so far? And thoughts on Mantra/dials?

Envyus

I didn't really agree with that on Luffy. Crocodile repeatedly smacked him down last arc, and Luffy had more issues with Satori than Eneru.

Extra Crispy

I didn’t feel luffy was op but I definitely felt like he was strong enough to handle anything until crocodile put a hook through him to me that’s his first legitimate loss. In real life combat sport terminology it’s called “getting fraud checked” and it’s basically exactly what happened to luffy a young upstart that looks really good beating up on weaklings until he meets a actually strong guy and then he gets destroyed. I really like that luffy couldn’t just bulldoze through crocodile and actually had to think and improve to beat him set a great standard for the rest of the series instead of luffy sandbagging until he starts trying and instantly wins.

Who are your favorite new characters from Jaya, Skypeia and the Jaya flashbacks? How do you feel about the pacing in these arcs in particular, do you think the complaints from commenters are overblown or warranted? (taking into consideration the fact that these aired more than 20 years ago and were coming out weekly) What mystery or set up that you know about so far are you most excited to learn more about? (Things like the will of D. the origin/purpose of Poneglyphs, etc.)

josephocenada

I think it's worth to rewatch Episode 151-152 especially it's a heavy lore drop, you guys were shooked that time so you guys missed the dialogues of Lafitte (who suggested Blackbeard to be a Warlord) you guys wondered at episode discussion if Lafitte went out of his way or Blackbeard knows it.

Christian Montgomery

How does the climax of Skypeia compare to the climax of alabasta for each of you?

Nathan Chartrand

There's always complaints about crew members "sitting out" from arc to arc, which happens with a large cast. For these arcs, who was your favorite crew member? Who was the most neglected? And who was the funniest?

Theo

We have now journeyed to a sea restaurant, a desert nation, an island in the sky, etc. What has been your favorite place to be thematically and what has been your favorite aesthetically thus far? What other places would you like to see next?

Cornell Chase

As someone who is also still on a One Piece Journey and is probably only a few episodes ahead of you guys (Episode 210 ), I'm curious on your thoughts about lack of deaths, or more accurately the fake out deaths so far? Personally, I've been enjoying One Piece, however, the one problem I've been recently having (in particular after Pell and especially in Skypiea) is the fake out deaths. It's beginning to feel like there's less stakes and overall consequences, to be honest, kind takes me out of the show a bit. I don't really have a big problem with little to no deaths, but I think more so the "fake out deaths" such as all the Shandians (especially Wyper) and Pagaya. It's kind of one of the reason I feel I enjoyed the G-8 filler arc more than Skypiea (though that may be recency bias, since it's been like a week since I finished. Still enjoyed Skypiea overall and I am still invested, but just curious on your's and other people's thoughts on this.

SomeoneElse

I can't think of anything off the top of my head to ask about Skypiea, but I would love if maybe near the end you guys revisit your predictions of what the One Piece could be. see if your thoughts have maybe changed since last time, or maybe just talk about other mysteries that are on your mind 🙂 I love hearing predictions/theory discussion type stuff, and you guys can be pretty insightful sometimes 💪

Gangster Gastino

Will you read the cover stories? They add a lot to the story.

Arvind C

Thoughts/Tin foil hat for "Will of D" so far?

Gnasher17

How do you guys feel about the poneglyphs as story elements so far?

Swoobmeister

Do you think Eneru will survive his trip to the moon?

Martin Hagen

One of my favorite parts of Skypiea / Jaya is the expansion of the world building in terms of Blackbeard, Whitebeard, The Gorosei (5 elders) and many more characters being introduced, as well as the choosing of a new Warlord following Crocodiles defeat. Who are some of the characters you're especially interested in seeing more of, and do you have any predictions on whats to come next for some of these characters?

Jack Shadow

Did this arc changed your opinion on some characters from the SH? LIke, from liking to disliking someone, or anything something like that.

Kwuagga

1) What are your thoughts and theories on Robin's "lost history" storyline and the poneglyphs? or 2) Why do you think the G8 filler arc is so universally loved by One Piece fans, what makes it different from other filler arcs?

BTImelesS

What do you think of Robin so far? What did you like most about Skypiea, between Character development, history/lore, worldbuilding, fights etc?

EOussama

I would be great if you guys checked out the cover story to expand on the resolution of the Skypiea arc, it would really spice up the conversation surrounding it. Other than that; What do you guys think about the fact that the Shandians had wings as far back as 400 ago when Calgara and his people were already on the blue sea? How do you feel about the fake out deaths so far? Surely it kills off some tension! Thoughts and prayers for the producers of the OPLA whenever they reach Skypiea, the budget has to be tremendous. Not gonna lie, I would personally love to see this filler adapted into the live action as well, I feel it perfectly made for that especially with the lack of extravagant fights and showoffs. Just like how Hacchi was dropped off from the Arlong Park arc cast (Which is a abysmal decision) I hope Satori and his siblings are never brought up into discussions.

cyberc33

How did you like the GOAT of G8 the legend himself Con D oriano ?

emilio corvalan

How do You feels about the cover stories as a concept, and would You rather find out about them, after they become relevant (like Jango) or as they are happening?

azope

Hello First i am not a english natif so i will try my best but i hope you would still somhow understant what i am say For some question I will say some stuff that will serve as context for my question if you are not interstet of the context feel free to skip it and take only the question. I will separated the question of the text to make it easier. 1) back in 2002/2004 if one piece would have air on usa tv like in hbo(don’t know usa tv) or any channel do you think you would have like it back in 2002/2004? Back in 2002/2004 in my contry france anime was quite popular already thank of the dorothé club ( for exmepl dbz end is airing in 1997 ) and so back in 2002/2004 my anime culture was totaly different back in the day french fansub and scantrad was more numerouse that english one but i still remmeber that back in that time one piece was only availible in fansub for english people so my question 2)Do you think one piece was save by fansub or it would come to usa in a way or another ? Naruto start airing when skipia start and bleach start airing when skipida end. In time of skipia one piece was already well establish as one ot the so call new big 3 the previous one ( the old of was saint seya dragon ball and slam dunk ) 3)I know you are a naruto fan so what your feeling knowing that one piece start beford Naruto and is still ongoing after it ? Skipia air betwen the 8th decembre 2002(136) and the 10 octobre 2004(206) in that time the the anime industry was taking a shift in multiple way first the old graphique style call the dark image was become obsolete thank to the computer animation but the new style fitting the new technologie was not yet inventef by studio Kyoto animation aka moe style ( invented with the melancolie of haruhi suzumya) so animation look way more difference that nowday ith multiple branch of art style fiting to each other. In same time mecka animed was becoming out of fashion but the new wawe aka isekai shonen/modern was just invented by the release of the first volume of zero no tsukaima in summer 2004 later when the anilme would be out in 2006 the fan fiction site of znt would seen the creation of a lot of isekai the most popular where sao , re zero , mushoku tensei slime, overlord …… In plus of that the 2 big precuseur of Madoka just air ( aka nanoah and may hime ) and many precourseur of pretty popular anime air around that time . all this question link to the list at the end 4)In that list of anime that air in the same time of one piece how many anime do you know or heart about ? 5) all this anime where more or close to the same popularity as one piece why now day we only remember some of they even thout all of they where eiter popluar of influenced anime that is popular ( aka naoah and may hime precusor of madoka ) especialy may hime that have basicaly the same story that madokka 6)last question do you agreed tht 2000 to 2008 ish was a important milstone for the japaness animation especialy the time of skipia aka 2002/2004 BONUS QUESTION Pell fate change from death to save because of the 11 septembre 2001 what your feeling about that ? The list vandread Overman; 12 kingdom Full metal panic hack Naruto just start around the time of skipia Hunter hunter greed island oav Gundam seed and gundam kiddy grade scrapped princess last exil chrono crusade tsukihime full metal panic ikkitousen fma ( the better version in my opinion) maria sama ga literu monster Kanon ganz Elfen lied School rumble Rozen maiden May hime Nanoa Bleach just start at the end of skipia

Ty

How do you feel the live action will cover this? What are some things that must stay and what are some things that should be cut?

Ty

I feel like one piece had huge potential in North America but the 4kidz dub ruined it. One piece was labeled as a little kid show and it took a while for one piece to get the recognition in North America. It always makes me laugh when people would say one piece isn’t popular in the west when all they really mean is not in America. Besides Japan, France probably loves one piece more than any other country

Mo za

What are your thoughts on how Roger was able to use the ancient text

Hening Honing

I found the G8 Filler Arc surprisingly enjoyable and well-executed. It provided a nice break from the intensity of Skypiea while still maintaining the spirit of adventure. What were your thoughts on this filler arc, and do you think it added value to the overall viewing experience?

Hening Honing

The world-building in One Piece continues to impress me, especially with the introduction of new locations like Skypiea. How do you think the series manages to keep each new island feeling fresh and unique?

Jeremy Gullion

Don't worry so much about making fans of OP mad, just keep giving your honest opinions please. OP is my favorite manga ever, and I love hearing what you guys honestly have to say. These after saga discussions you guys do are my favorite. Just wanted to get that out of the way. My question is a simple one, what has been your favorite thing (characters, story, humor, something else) about OP, and what has been your least favorite thing?

Bezapollo

Do you think Jaya and Skypiea fit perfectly a season of the live action, or now having watched the g-8 filler should that be made into episodes and include in the hypothetical season.

Ben Swaggerty

I hope they do. I believe where they are in the anime is the equivalent to about chapter 300 or so. They could read the first 6 cover stories up to this point

Alexander Saldivar

How do you feel about the fact that a bunch of people, even hardcore fans, choose to skip this arc?

JojoJack

Luffy has fought pirates, marines, sea kings, creatures, a warlord, and even a ‘god.’ Who do you think is Luffy’s next ‘big’ opponent?

Momar

What was it like when you first realized that going to the sky was a thing that could actually happen in One Piece? At what point in the show did you imagine that possibility?

Jambron

In episode 187, Lindsay made an interesting comment about the giant ball and chain that Calgara throws, and how it resonates with the one on Luffy's arm, likening it to an 'ancient mythical weapon'. I always saw it as a symbol of carrying the weight of ancestry, which ties into One Piece's theme of inherited will. It's also literally used as a weapon when thrown at the bell, which I thought was a clever detail. I’m sure you noticed many comments about how this arc ties into the larger story and has payoffs very late into it. What are your thoughts on the themes of this arc? Do you like how Oda incorporates symbolism and broader messages into the story?

SB

- One of the highlights of this arc for me was Zoro. Him starting the Tarzan cry as well as his interactions with Chopper and Robin were really enjoyable. Given his history and role as the backbone of the crew, it is not easy to win his trust, but we can see him starting to care a little bit about Robin when she got electrocuted and how mad he got when Chopper was hurt by Ohm (I love how he takes Chopper under his wing). How do you feel about the relationship dynamics within the crew now especially with the new additions to the main 5? What do you think is in store for their relationship going forward, especially with Robin? - And it was definitely scary the amount of times Merry was nearly destroyed or damaged. Since the live action where Luffy says that they’ll take care of it, maintain it since it is considered their new home, how do feel, do you think they held up on their promise? And did Usopp just hallucinate about the Merry getting fixed, what are your thoughts on the strange figure that showed up and turned Merry back into its original self? - Lastly, do you guys see yourself reacting to any movies, or past cover stories (1 pg images before every chapter) down the line which covers what other characters are doing before possibly meeting again: like Buggy. You can get through them pretty fast and I believe you guys are on ch.302 but overall I love the pace! The world is expansive, & taking detours along the way makes it more exciting.

Gino

Which one of the brothers is your favourite? Satori, Hotori or Kotori?

klairvoyage

glad to have y'all back & I can't wait to hear your overall thoughts on the 3rd saga! only 6 to go now^^ also leaving the post-Skypiea cover story here rq (5-min-read), in case y'all want to include it as part of the pod: https://imgur.com/a/0kVqhL6

Six

Favorite villain so far between buggy, arlong, croc and enel ?

klairvoyage

- The first 2 arcs (Buggy & Koby) they already saw in the anime - "Jango's Dance Paradise" they got the context for Jango & Fullbody's appearance at the end of Arabasta from Patreon comments already, that aside it is just a fun read - "Hatchi's Sea-Floor Stroll" is to 99% just a fun read too - "Wapol's Snack Banzai" kinda gets adapted by the anime at SOME point lol - "Ace's Hunt for The Blackbeard" is also just a fun read, especially if you're cravin more Ace ig - The Enel one though feels like a must, since it resolves a question they and many others have had for the entire arc, while also posing a dozen new ones lmao

Nicolas LeBlanc

At this point of the story what devil fruit would you want? Or hypothetically if something else comes to mind.

Mariam

This One Piece saga has brought some changes to the show. I'm curious to know how it has affected your opinion of the show. Additionally, I would like to know more about your expectations for the upcoming Water Saven saga. Are you looking forward to any specific character arcs or plot developments?

Mariam

What parts of the story, character development, and world-building stood out the most to you? Was it a character's growth, a plot twist, a new aspect of the world, or a new storyline?

Martin Hagen

I see alot of Hotori stans out there, and I totally get that POV but personally Kotori is the best written character in all of fiction. Absolutely incredible.

Hotaru Ichimaru

Numerous people have mentioned paramecia types and logia types, on top of the zoans we've heard of what do you think the distinctions will be between the three

pedro I.S

The questions about paramecia, zoan and logia are very interesting because the show has only mentioned those devil fruit types through conversations bettween characters, and didnt really stop to explain to the audience, which is uncommon in anime/manga. So is very justified to talk about how those devil fruits could work.

pedro I.S

Yes i would really like if they could check that cover on their own before the video. but idk if its possible. It would really change the Q&A part of the podcast

megalazyguy

would you like to see the live action do the G8 arc?

Legitpickles

Although it’s a filler we got some more time with the navy in G8. How do you feel about the world government/navy in one piece and how do you think their role will affect the show/our crew going forward?

Kiki Varas

Which do you think about this Arc as a whole in comparison to the Alabasta Arc as a whole? Do you like this Arc more? What things do you think were done better in the last arc or better in this one etc?

Kiki Varas

What do you think about the One Piece world building and story telling so far? Have you liked it or what are your thoughts on it as a whole?

Gaetan

The 9/11 fact about Pell is 99% a legend, it may be true due to timming but neither Oda or his editor never said it was related. You can find a lot of reasons of why Pell survive the explosion from crazy ones to some way more interesting theories. But unless one of them is confirmed one day, the reason of his survival is just that Oda don't like killing characters if it's not absolutely necessary for the story to progress. By the way, if you also heard about the make wish story, it's a legend too. Voir le "Club Dorothé" au détour d'un commentaire Patreon n'était pas dans ma bingo list du jour mdr. JDG serait fier!

Kiki Varas

I have to kinda of disagree on that. As an American I can say that One Piece is popular. I think it’s been popular for years now, however I think Naruto is more common and known. But One piece is definitely popular in America, even before I watched One piece I’ve met and heard so many liked it and watched it.
