Hey all!

Inspired by the recent update to my Paladin Sacred Oath Compendium I have been working hard on this update for my Work-in-Progress Alternate Paladin Class!

This official Alpha Version of the Alternate Paladin includes levels 1-20, eleven new/updated Paladin Spells, and four Sacred Oaths: Ancients, Devotion, Vengeance, and the Oathless!

I don't have a full change log (that will come with the official release), but I am interested to hear what you all think of this new take on the class! Let me know in the comments.

If you dare, this class is ready to be play tested in-game (I don't think it'll break anything)

Enjoy,

I'm noticing you have something called Combat Superiority listed as being at 5th level, but you instead have Extra Attack on that level. Also, wondering if there's any chance for including a fighting style that includes range, banner, or polearm fighting?

I’m curious of the thought process behind having the oath at 1. The lore for paladins is that they draw divine power from their oaths (mechanically this has been all but abandoned by a timid WOTC but that is another conversation). In your warlock you moved the patron to level 2. What was the thought behind not doing this for paladin also. I find the idea of a paladin starting as a squire/apprentice/novice and growing into their oath through deeds compelling. Maybe a level 1 paladin has acknowledged the power of oaths while not swearing a particular oath until later. This is also reflective of how Sanderson handles oath based powers in Stormlight archives. The words are the same for every order of knights radiant at first then they change based on your order. To sum up, what informed your decision to have paladins choose their oath at 1 instead of a later level?

I think that a Paladin's Oath is so core to the concept that it must be at 1st level (like a Sorcerer's bloodline, etc). Their magical power comes directly from their Oath, so there are two options: 1. Oath is at 1st level and they can start with magical abilities. 2. Oath is at 2nd (or 3rd level) and they are basically Fighters until they swear their Oath.
