S1 had the task of dissecting Frank's psyche and showing all of his eternal struggles. There were moments that were good but yeah, it was not as compelling as this episode already is. Now though, we know all about Punisher's backstory. So we get to just watch him be badass. Yes, that is the villain Billy Russo from the first season in the hospital bed. Looking forward to seeing how his arc turns out. I don't remember much about S2 but with this premiere, it seems like it promises to be a fun ride.

In season 2 Daredevil I thought they touched on how the bullet in the head he took changed the way he feels pain. But I could be wrong. There are a few different versions of Punisher.
