One of the most interesting characters in this film is Burke, played by Paul Reiser. Burke is easily among the most reviled antagonists ever put in a film, and for good reasons: He lied to Ripley that he intended to kill the aliens, when his real intent was to bring them back to be used as bioweapons; he used what was intended as a rescue mission to get rich by delivering dangerous organisms; he quietly released the facehuggers to use Ripley and Newt as hosts to sneak the aliens through quarantine; he shut off the video in the lab when Ripley and Newt needed help; per Ripley, he probably intended to quietly kill the Marines while in hibernation to ensure no one knew about the aliens Ripley and Newt would be hosting; finally, he locked the door on Ripley and the Marines, leaving them to die. After all that, if there is such a thing as a satisfying death scene, it is when Burke is finally attacked by one of the aliens. Burke is an intelligent, subtle, and extremely detestable character, and Paul Reiser did a phenomenal job bringing to life a character we all love to hate.
